Hi,
I inherited an old Marklin loc. from around the 1960's It is an an analog loc. with a reversing relay. I want to upgrade to a newer motor and need to know the model and serial number. can anyone tell me how to find it. It is a steam loc with tender.
The loc says DB 44690 on its cabin
Thanks
Abe

Hi Abe ,

Your locomotive is a GN 800 , 3027 or a 3047. locomotives produced before 1965 had the model number on the side of the cab, from 1965 on the 3047 had DB lettering.

Cheers,

Gordon

Try this ebay listing Märklin 3310

Or this one Märklin 3027

I just googled märklin DB 44690 and got quite a few hits.

Good luck.ThumpUp ThumpUp

Hello Abe,

I have a BR44 from the 60s with running number 44 690.
It is model number 3047.
The motor is one of the Large Flat Collector type. It has a telex coupling on the rear and can be fitted with a smoke generator.
Sorry but I don't know the serial number.
However, in order to fit a newer motor you should just be able to get the kit suitable for LFCM types.
I think kit 60904 is the one you need. I don't think this is produced anymore but have a look on ebay.de.

You don't say if you intend to convert to digital or whether you just want a new motor.
I converted mine to digital with an ESU Lokpilot V4 decoder and permanent magnet. It runs nice if you ignore all the whining from the many gears BigGrin .

Marklin HO using M track. Now reverted to analogue as I find it has more character and is more fun...... and I understand it!

Close, but not 100% correct. Your loco is either a GN 800, 3009, 3027 or 3047.

The best place to check for that sort of info is Helmut Kern's website - http://www.hfkern.gmxhome.de/

Looking under Marklin / Loks / Dampfloks (Steam) / Germany (German flag) / Br44 shows that running number 44 690 was produced in the model numbers that I mention, and that the motor type for all of those models was LFCM.

Kit 60944 is the motor, the decoder can be bought separately (60904 contains motor and decoder, but was discontinued a long time ago).
I presume the loco is too old to have a serial number.

Regards
Tom
