Hello collectors
Here's a short vid of my Re 800 and 348/x coaches.
Included are a couple of the original ones, received for Xmas 1956!

I have a Re 4/4 (from a Start Set) along with one baggage (348/4) one diner (green) (348/2) and one coach with the opening doors (348/1). I managed to acquire a second 348/1 coach and am now running the train as Re 4/4 - 348/1 - 348/1 - 348/4. I installed one of the giant tail lights on the baggage car and I am not using the diner in the consist that often.

I might at some point try to add one or two 4038 coaches without the opening doors.

I wonder if anybody has ever motorized the doors on the 348/1. That would be pretty cool on a digital layout.

Regards

Mike C

I'm running these coaches, the old tin-plate "Leichtstahlwagen", with Hag's old Ae 4/7 model, # 140. A very nice consist.

Yes...!!
Very nicely nostalgic toy trains, aren't they?
But my HAG Ae 4/7 doesn't have a lot of pulling power: 4 coaches and that's it...despite 3 bandaged axles!
My Re 800 however seems to be un-stop-able!Cool

Love the tinplate!
Is the consist prototypical, with the 2nd Class coaches, Diner, 2nd Class coaches and Baggage coach? Thanks Jvuye and post more videos!ThumpUp

Well, prototypical?
Maybe not..
There are no first class coaches in that series, and that would be the missing link.
Otherwise these were the backbone of "intercity" traffic in the 1950's (although those trains were not named that way..they'd be called "Schnellzug" or fast train)
Nonetheless, ever since I saw it in the 1951 catalog, this Märklin composition was in my dreams already when I was 8...and 60 years + later, I have it running on my layout.

Hi Jacques

Great video and consist.ThumpUp

After years of running my Swiss coaches behind an E44 I bought an Ae6/6 to pull my Swiss consist and just love the look of them and the noise.Love

Does anyone know why M* never did a 1st class version to match?

Thank you Mike.
I would think that Märklin did not see the need to re-tool for yet another version (fewer but larger windows for the 1st Class version...)
I am perfectly happy with the current version but you knew that alreadyBigGrin

I have seen people who have adapted one of the coaches into an A (1st class) or AB (1st and 2nd class) variant and added it to the consist. Interestingly, Maerklin also made the 4066 EWII in only first class. Some modellers have likely used the newer 4066 for first class and the 4015 or 4038 for second class with either the 348/2 (4015) or 4068 diner and the 348/4 (4017) baggage car.

I have also run a consist with DB 1st and 2nd class coaches (UIC-X) with the 4066 diner and then the 348/1s, which was common to see on international Gotthard trains.

Trix Express and Pocher had first class coaches which could also have been used with the Maerklin 2nd class coaches.
