Joined: 10/11/2006(UTC) Posts: 455 Location: Pacific Ocean		Hi, I'm looking for one of those super small springs for a z scale pantograph. It's for an 8853 but, from what I can see on my other pantographs, they are all the same. I couldn't find any springs below .063 dia. (I need about 1mm) so I'll probably try rolling my own if I can find some super thin steel wire. But before I do, has anyone found a common substitute for it? Unfortunately I'm thousands of miles away from any dealers parts boxes so I probably need an online source. thanks, -George

I'll measure some,.....maybe a Kadee coupler spring might work??? Dr D

A legacy of my past life repairing IBM Typewriters is to be blessed with a wonderful assortment of springs in all shapes and sizes. The smallest I have from the range is fractionally over 1mm in diameter, probably 1.1 or 1.2 (according to the analogue micrometer) which may be just what you want. It's reasonably strong for its size but sadly I don't have any Miniclub E-loks for comparison. But I have taken an image of it with a common 8610 Miniclub open wagon to give you an indication of size. I expect it is too long but easily cut to length and then just form a new end coil from the last loop. If it's of any help I can pop a couple in an envelope for you - I'd like to deliver personally of course but that holiday is a wee way off. And I'd have to brush up my surfing I'm sure. In the meantime, I'll put on some Beach Boys and get into the zone. Let me know if you think it might work for your needs? Cheers Steve cookee_nz attached the following image(s):

I popped this one off inside a xlarge zip lock bag so I could find it when it flew. Let me know if your offer still stands and I'll send you my address. thanks again, George
