After spending a few nights on drawing the 84/85 three level layout so that I can recreate it in C track.

It's was always a very different, individualistic layout. I still have that catalog. PeterThumpUp Smile

I used to look at that catalogue for hours and hours when I was a kid dreaming about that layout.

When showing my kids they said lets build it Dad!!! That was enough motivation for me.

Hi Christian,

I too used to drool over this plan in the 84/85 catalogue. I never actually costed it, but it looks like a sizeable investment, and that's without the trains!

Will you be adding the catenary and/or signals? What will you use for control, digital or analogue?

Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways
Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

If You use M-track your Cost would probably be half of the C-Track ( just a Thought ).

Hi guys.

I am going to use C track as I have already invested a chunk of cash into it.

I wont be doing catenary, I really have no interest in it at all. Signals definitely. I have a box of signals waiting to go

Control will be combination - I have a CS1 CS2 MS1 MS2 and more than likely iTrain as I have a couple of mac minis in the cupboard.

I am going to clear out the workshop this long weekend so I can start.

I need to do a stock inventory of what track I have and what I need. I probably have about 1/5 of what is required. Probably shouldn't have bought the 37567 from Modellbahn Kramm last night..... ;) Could have bought quite a pile of track with that purchase!

can I ask those of you who have experience in large track layouts, what sort of power requirements would you recommend?

Obviously the CS2 has a 60052 but the layout will obviously need a booster or three.....

cheers

Hi. This is the nicest three-level layout ever published. But please, avoid using switches 5214 or 24630, they are very awful.

Hi, I have never had any problems with the M Track 5214 (owned since 1971) three way

switch or the C Track 24630. PeterSmile

Number of boosters is more determined on how many trains you are running or stored under power. You will consider getting a booster if you are running more than about 10 trains. More if all are high efficiency or less if you are also planning to run switches from track power.

I ended getting another booster when the switches were no longer responding reliably. Also do plan on adding the recommended wire pickups every 2m as suggestd by Marklin.

If you are not sure, run just with the CS2 until you get issues. At least you can play with some trains sooner and all later.
