Since starting to purchase Marklin items for my girlfriend I hsvr hsd to comr here on more than on occassion for help. So, nothing's changed! One of my not so smart eBay purchases netted me a bunch of broken trains Since I really am an experienced modeler I've been able to put together a decent consist using various parts and pieces but the locomotive has me stumped. It will not run from track power but I can get the motor turning using jumpers and a DC power supply. Is there a wiring diagram for this locomotive anywhere?

Thanks for any help,

Jeff Livingston

Hi Jeff,

The BR 80 is produced for more than 40 years now in many variations. It would be easiest to help you if you show a picture of the open loco and a detail picture of the decoder if there is one.

Hello Jeff, I can see one problem looming straight away. The loco runs on AC power not DC. Power is collected from the slider on the bottom of the loco on the middle rail/set of studs. I am assuming this loco is not a Hamo version which would run on DC. Pictures of the loco without its top on would be very helpful. Does it look something like this?

Jeff I just realized I was getting ahead of myself here. Your BR80 you are referring to is Guage1. Would that be correct?

Gentlemen,

I'll take a photo when I get home tonight and attempt to post it. The motor and gear train look very similar to the old Loinel motors and gears. Large capacitor parallel to the locomotive centerline, what appears to be a mechanical forward/reverse switch and a small PC board. Electrical pick-up is from the wheel centers on one side and what appears to be a carbon brush on the center axle.

Thank you all for your assistance.

Hi Jeff,

This sounds like a 5710. A wiring diagram can be found at:

Code:
http://www.maerklin.de/service/produktservice/listengenerator.php?brand=1&artikelnummer=5710

Please copy the link and insert in a new window.
