Is it just me, or are the instructions for changing CV's using the 6021 not always quite correct? I just got through changing the address for my new 36851 hobby Swiss Cargo. I followed the documentation exactly several times to no avail. I referred back to some similar Loco's instructions and after a little while got the right combination. I really don't remember for sure the exact problem but I think it was with the 36851 document. It said to hold the reversing and go at the same time. In another it said do the reversing and then hit go. Anyway, I got through it quick enough but I was wondering if others have had a problem.I have had this problem several times. Once, with Scott Housman(Helmut's Hobbies) we went through one and agreed the documentation was slightly wrong.

I put this together:
Setting Hobby Lok Parameters with 6021
1. Press ‘stop’ and ‘go’ buttons at same time until ’99’ blinks
2. Press ‘stop’ button
3. Enter the current lok address
4. Hold the speed control knob in reverse direction position & press the ‘go’ button
5. The headlight on the lok should blink, if not, return to step 1
6. Enter the register number for the parameter to be changed
7. Activate the direction reversal
8. Enter new value
9. Activate the direction reversal
10. Press the ‘stop’ button, then press the ‘go’ button
Parameter/Register/Value
Address/01/01-80
Acceleration/03/01-31
Maximum Speed/05/01-63

Thanks. That is what I found. It is clearly not what the documentation says. By the way, if one were a newcomer to this process, you would think you should enter "80" as the current address. They are not clear on that at all to people who have never done programing.They would not know to enter the default address - I don't think that is explained anywhere. I knew, but what if you were a 12 year kid?
In general, as has been mentioned in the forum, the booklets are very brief considering the Loks can cost hundreds of dollars. In fact, on the hobby ones you don't even get a description of the Lok and where it ran etc.

Address 80 works with any loco that can be programmed that way - no matter what its current address is.
And all locos I tried accepted addresses above 80 (not with a CU 6021 however). So the range for CV 1 is either 1 through 80 or 1 through 255 depending on your digital system.
BTW: reversing with address 80 again ends the programming mode for mfx loco, but not for M* hobby locos. |

Lutz - I've been trying to find this desciption on the Marklin FAQ site without any success. My fault in that I have to use babelfish to help me. Could you send me the url?

I have also noticed that some wording in manuals is not always on the mark. This not intentional, but only a type-o or a slight language translation issue. We are all human.
