I am at the stage on my layout to start to but some Preiser figures and stuff on my layout and I was wondering what adhesive people use to stick them down.

Charles, Usually PVA BUT if I think I may move them at a later date I use "Blue Tack" Or White Tack. Not sure what you call it in the UK. It is a bit putty like but sticks and does not go hard. But it does stick like muck to a blanket. |

I'm usually using "Loctite" instant ahesive.
Previosly I also used PVA, but if you take a little bit to much adhesive, it causes some kind of "bubbles" around the feet of the Preiser figures.

Super glue works for me, provided you don't want to move them again.

I used to use Super glue, but after a while I had a lot of Preiserlings with no feet when they had been knocked off the layout! Now I use either white glue or Humbrol polystyrene cement, depending on whether I'm sticking them to wood or plastic. You have to find whatever works best for you. On my layout I tend to knock the figures off frequently as I clean the track or dust off the buildings. This will happen irrespective of the glue you use, but obviously if you use something quite weak like white glue or blue tack it will happen more often. If they are stuck on too firmly, as with superglue, then the feet will break off. You need to find a balance... |

Ray I can see a market for Preiserling wheelchairs on your layout. (or a good surgeon) Dr D, can you explain further your wax composite? How would it handle 50 degree Celsius temps? Regards.....Chook.

Hi Chook, all, I won't give you a history of this but it was first used by dollhouse modelers to attach items to walls that were wallpapered. It is easily removed and will not tear the paper,so,... Here is one brand: http://www.department56.com/pro...amp;keywords=tacky%20waxYou can warm it between your fingers to soften it,place a dab on the bottom of the figure and then place it anywhere even on scenery. It will not lift it nor paint and easy to clean any residue. This is an easy way to move figures around and change a scene. Chook,it is a wax,I don't know what would happen at that temp.Try it! Dr D

To glue the fireman and engineer in a loco I used with success Noch 61120. They can be removed with relative ease and without damage.

Hi Charles,
Superglue if you want permanence and are good at getting it right the first time, upright and in the place you want them. White glue is great to be able to tweak the position as they dry. And the "white" of the glue drys matt and transparent.
Wax or blue tack if you want to reposition them a lot.
Not tried, but I have also seen pins attached to the bottom, where you can just pin them into styro or soft-based layout and reposition when you like. Of course, too many repositionings with this technique would make for the many bulletin board holes. However, this way might help to avoid them leaning in directions you don't want.
Let us know what you decide on, or how it goes. I think the biggest question is trying to work out the narrative of how the figures interact and create your story with the surroundings.

I also use the Noch 61120 "Hin und Weg Kleber", it's easy to apply and as Miguel says, it's quite easy to move the Preisers afterwards :), great when Junior want's to move the figures around, but it works best on suitable surfaces, e.g. not good on grass in my experience :)

Hi all, If anyone clicked on the link I posted,Tacky wax is cheap and that 1oz tube could do every Preiser figure on Miniature Wonderland! I got one on eBay for 99¢ + free shipping. Yes,some figures can/should be always a part of the layout, favorite scenes, etc. Those would be glued down depending on the the surface material. Where it bothered me was at station platforms,in the Bw "Are you people just going to stand there?" So I would move them and/or replace them before a session. Dr D

Dr D I think my people will remain in the same place all of the time. Perhaps later on I might think I would like to change them but not sure. Charles. |

Hello Juhan. Never thought of that. We have lots of it my wife has eaten it for the last 40 years at lunch time on ryvita. It is also very good to stop nat bites etc. My wife never gets nat bites I always do so when I to scotland at the end of may I wil eat marmite the month before. I know it works as I know a army doctor who tells the soldiers to take when they go in the jungle. Charles. PS sorry to go off the thread a bit. |

Cheers, Rick Hi Rick, I haven't noted any movements in the package and even not when I tickle them with my soft paint brush, so I don't think they would like to move later either.. (Now I really thought I was funny. I'm just dying from laugh here the last 5 minutes) |

Hag used to sell a product called autofix which was designed to hold cars on their BLS car carriers. It can also be used to keep Preiserleins in place.

Charles,
I have used Detail Tack sold by Micro-Mark. It stays sticky but is not visable and also good for autos and other detals. I assure you that once you have used it you will also never return to using glues.

I also use the Hin und Weg-kleber or the Scenic Accents Glue from Woodland Scenics, which is the exact same product. I use it for more than Preisers. I also use it to mount phonebooths, mailboxes and the like. It is very easy to work with, and I would definitely recommend it. |

the downside of it is it attracts cockroaches, ants and other insects and some people may can smell the extract and you could have a lot of noses in one area, fighting for the closest spot I'm using super glue, a.) if I ever have another public display, (people can't take it off unless they break it , my son uses hot glue but I don't particular like it because it leaves the glue showing and if you use less they don't stand up or by the slightest touch fall over. with superglue you would have to give them quite a hard knock to break them. I like to move my figures around a lot. I use left over clear window foil as a platform for each Preiserling. I paint the platform a flat color and add a little static grass or dirt to eliminate the gloss look. The foil is very thin and doesn't show to bad. However, I like the other sticky products mentioned and will try those in the future.

I use white (cold) glue; works well, and when dry doesn't show any of the glue residue. Have to be careful when positioning them that they don't start leaning over! Folk would think they been getting too much Marmite!! Whatever you use to support the figures while the glue sets, just be careful not to get the "supports" stuck in the glue as well!! I speak from experience..... regards, Joe

Hi
I use flock glue - I think it's by WS but I'm not sure. It is a type of PVA but dries clear so doesn't stand out.Being so tacky it doesn't need long for it to go off and support the Preiserling unaided.
It also gives me the option of moving them if I need to.

Hi. In the end I have used 4 types of glue PVA and Preisers own were I can get some thing next to to support it Hot melt glue in places like woody and grass places and super glue were I needed speed for the glue to go of i.e. station platforms. This last week I have been doing the platforms 30 people on each of 3 platforms and what I did was put a bit of super glue on the end of a wooden tooth pick and use that to put the glue onto the feet of people. Many thanks for all your ideas. Charles. |

Charles. Hello Charles, I note this reply is only one year late! When fixing the preiserlings to a flat surface I use Faller Expert glue if the plastic is suitable such as here: Some plastics will not adhere to the plastic glue and then I use super-glue as here: At times some surfaces are flat but not plastic (some rubber-like) and I use Woodlands Scenics "hob-e-tac" as seen on this road surface: When there is an irregular surface I again use Woodlands Scenics "hob-e-tac" such as these 2 chaps arguing on the irregular surface of the steam service facility yard or the huntsman in the hills fixed to irregular surface scenics: Regards, PJ
