Lovely old style Marklin layout! ThumpUp

Apart from the obvious nostalgia appeal, these layouts also serve to highlight how far we've progressed in making realistic model railways in the last 60 years!

Wow!!! Thanks for the link....

I'm finding that more of my purchases involve the older, analog locomotives and their cataloged accessories. While I do like the newer technology, I find the older pieces have a certain charm, sound and - yes - "aromoa" that the newer ones just can't match.

Hello Wolfgang,
Thanks for the dimensions, the photographs give a great view, seems much wider than it actually is.I am thinking of creating a similar layout to show school kids in India.Do you have the track Plan a line drawing, can you put it up on the forum.Did you create this and if so how long did you take to complete the fantastic layout. You are based in Germany is that right? Thanks again,
Kumar

Hmmmm, I've got a tinplate roundhouse, a bunch of M track, 2 cranes and I've just scored myself a 7186 turntable..........(thinking cap on......)

Thanks for posting Wolfgang, new digital layouts are great (I'm building one myself) but there's something appealing about these layouts made from older items!

Yes, I wouldn't go as far as to build one myself, but I do like to see the older type layouts in photos and videos.

I think their appeal is that they look back at a more innocent time, when imagination was more important than accuracy. These are the kind of layouts that we as children fell in love with 50 years ago.

Today we are concerned with ever more accurate models full of sophisticated functions, and that is of course possible due to the amazing advances there have been in manufacturing and in the electronics. The standard of realism we get today out of the box would have needed many hours of skillfull scratchbuilding half a century ago.
