Hi All,

I found and purchased another classic Faller AMS kit; B-4916 ADAC Raststätte

It is a model of an German roadside service point.
At that time a large roadside service point was named a "Rasthof" (and often included a Motel) and a smaller service point was named a "Raststätte".

The B-4916 ADAC Raststätte has a Cafe, a snackbar, a moneychange, a first aid post, a small police post, toilets and a few banks to sit and rest on. The ADAC (Allgemeine Deutsche Automobil-Club) was and is still is the largest Automobile Club in germany.

The B-4916 ADAC Raststätte was not based on a real 1:1 building, but had quite obvious her roots in the older Faller Station Neuburg, that was in the Faller program as item B-97 from 1960 to 1965 and came back in 1973 as item B-96.

The AMS B-4916 Raststätte kit was in the Faller program from 1964 to 1973 and introduced as a 1964 novelty in Faller catalog 1963/64 on page 7. In the catalog 1972/73 the ADAC service point was no longer displayed, but still mentioned in the pricelist. In catalog 1973/74 B-4916 also disappeared from the price list and never returned.

Apart from the ADAC symbol, you can also choose 3 other company symbols: KNAC, TCSB and IORM.

I hope you like the pictures of this almost 50 year old kit.

Marco

Nice find Marco. Do you know anything about the other organisations(KNAC, TCSB and IÖRM)? Are they different organisations or just some capitals to make your own wished abbrevation? According to the Faller 851 AMS book the Austrian automobile club is the ÖAMTC(Österreicherischer Automobil-, Motorrad-, und Touring Club) and the Swiss is the TCS(Touring Club Suisse).

Even if I'm not Marco, I may shed some light on the signs. First one can note that some of the letters are separate and by using them and in some cases cut away one or two letters, this makes it possible to for instance create:

TCB - Touring Club Belgium
TCI - Touring Club Italiano
KNAC - Koninklijke Nederlandsche Automobiel Club
ARBÖ - Auto-, Motor- und Radfahrerbund Österreichs

And for us in Sweden one could even create:

M - Motormännens Riksförbund ( http://www.motormannen.se/ )

I believe all these clubs are members of AIT Alliance Internationale de Tourisme.

There are too few As in the kit to create AAA, if anybody would like to put a US touch to the building.

A bit off topic, but AAA in the USA is member of AIT and at least earlier AAA had a very nice service to members of AIT sister organizations: You could get free of charge guide books and maps by just showing your membership card in an AAA office. Being a member of Swedish Motormännen, I've used this service a number of times, mostly when visiting California, but also for other states.

Another interesting thing with this box is that the white and black car on the cover is not a Faller AMS car. It's a Chevrolet Impala from ATLAS, USA. And the reason for this is that Faller just had two models ready when the first photos for the AMS boxes were taken about 50 years ago, the MB 220 & the Opel Kapltän, and couldn't use the same two cars on every box. And it seems Faller at the time had purchased some cars from American manufacturers to check out the construction of their slotcars. That's why some of them appear on Faller boxes in these early days.......

I think you can make the tripple A with the two A:s from the ADAC and the last A from the KNAC. Cool

Hi Marco

Another excellent find. Are you going to find another one so you can build one for your AMS layout?

By the way where do you keep finding these treasures?

Hi Mats, Hi Per, Hi Fallerfreak and Hi Mike,
Thank you for your comments !! ThumpUp

@Mats, I believe your questions about the different company signs are already answered.

@ Fallerfreak, thanks for the interesting info on the Atlas Chevrolet Impala !!

@Mike. I found the Faller goodies on German ebay, occasionally some nice unbuilt kits pop up.

Marco
