i cannot help comparing with Rivarossi Br58 released in 2009.
All new tooling with surprisingly realistic third cylinder and active inner crank was as the level of brass car manufacturing. Metal bodyshell and boiler driving were the same as marklin
Why marklin didnt think about doing the same or surpass rivarossi？

I really like this loco, but as an outsider I can't guarantee I'll be able to get one straight away. I voted "Maybe".
Also, it is going to compete with the Br56 from this year which I also like... |

If I will buy a BR 58, it's going to be the Rivarossi model. Sorry, but I'm not willing to pay nearly 400 € for a just normal steam loco. Moreover, I prefer an Eastern German DR version, rather than a DB version, because the BR 58 didn't last long in Western Germany. The last one was withdrawn from DB service in 1953, as the DB owned large numbers of BR 50.
In Eastern Germany, BR 58 remained in service until 1976.

Hi all,
I have voted maybe on this one. Not because I do not know yet whether I will buy a BR 58, but mainly for the simple reason I will not be buying any other than Era I models. Thus, I am eagerly awaiting an Era I version of this BR 58. That could among others be a Prussian, Baden or Wúrttemberg version, with the latter one being the most interesting one to me. Perhaps I will have to have some more patience for one of these versions to be produced, probably as an MHI model.

I don´t like Marklins new telex couple!
It´s too big and clumsy.
It´s not nice to put like that on the tender.
It´s not even charming to do that!
Lenz telex couple is the best that you can get in the market.
ESU new V60 shall use Lenz telex couple.
Marklin should do that too!!!

Absolutely agree!. I don't have no locomotive with this coupling. Today I saw the new BR 212. I liked it, but I'll wait without coupling (and without sound....). Well... cheaper. |

Hi all,
I noticed the BR58 have only 2 front lights, which is more era II characteristic. This emphasizes that it is an early era III, I think.
This way Märklin doesn't need to change the front for era II, but I think for late era III and era IV it is a must!
It looks fantastic as the wagons also do.
I would like it to have a Faulhaber or other coreless motor, but I think I am not lucky in that respect.

In Eastern Germany it was used until 1976, but it's rather unlikely that Märklin will make DR versions of eras III or IV (but who knows). It's sure that other variations will follow. |
