I bought two lovely classic Faller items that I like to show here. Platform B-115 is not often on Ebay. It's a glass covered platform and some parts easy get damaged, what is probably the reason that there are not much left nowadays and are often in poor condition. Bahnhof Schonblick B-103 is also a true Faller 1950s classic. This lovely typical 1950's station can be seen on many 1950/60s layouts. 115. But after 50 years it is often in poor condition with missing and broken parts. And glue stains seems te be more visible if there are get older. In early Faller documentation platform B-115 is recommended for Bahnhof Schonblick B-103. Bahnhof Schonblick looks a bit like Faller Station Fluelen B-111. Stations like Schonblick, with there typical 1950 architecture from just after the war, can be found all over in Germany. Marco Edited by user 05 June 2015 12:16:38(UTC)

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the story.
Some of the kits from that era fill an architectural niche, not so easily replicated these days.

I really like your Schonblick Bahnhof, Ian !! Is it correct that I donn't see a roof on the Schonblick newspaper Kiosk ?? Do you want a (free) original roof for it? Maybe I can sent one to you? |

On the internet there is no database, where one can check some background information of early Faller items, like when it was manufactured and so on. So I done some enquiry myself in early Faller documentation. I have got the first issue of Faller Magazine "October 1957", on page 27 is a picture of Bahnhof Schonblick But I think Faller start producing this kit in de begin or mid 1950s, but I'm not sure In the Faller catalogue 1959, 1960/1961 and 1961/62 are some really nice illustrations of bahnhof Schonblick. I made some pictures of it.... kweekalot attached the following image(s): |

Ian, thanks for the pics and info. Maybe you all find me a strange maniac because I love this 'Bahnhof' so much. But I can't help it. I bought 4 stations, al damaged, 2 very badly damaged.... I'm gone restore them and can make 1 or 2 good ones with the parts from the broken ones. I believe that all four are from the 1950's because they have got the old Faller logo at the bottom of the groundplate and have also typical 1950 figures glued on. Bought 2 in Belgium and Germany, and 2 in Holland where I'm living. Ian, I can sent the kiosk roof for free if you want. |

Well, don't forget the cleaning! (They are really dirty). The Belgium one looks as if it was dug up from someone's garden. I'm happy if I can assemble 2 good one's. Paid between € 10 and € 25 each, not really cheap when I think about it (and the poor state there are in).

Marco,
I see you run your trains on "M" track with the center rail. May I ask if the electrical ski/slider has any wear due to sliding constantly on the solid rail?
Thanks,

Rob, It isn't M track, but '3600' track. M track was introduced in 1953, 3600 track is from before 1953, also called 00 track. I bought the 3600 track the last weeks and my Loco's where only on it for a few minutes. But I have been told that the modern ski current pick up shoes can handle the solid middle rail perfectly and don't wear off more in comparison with M-track. K-track or C-track. But it is true that the 3600 type track was designed for the old type spoon pick up shoes. kweekalot attached the following image(s): |

Hi all, Here I'm again with my Station Schonblick, it's time for an update ! As I told here before, I bought 5 already build Stations Schonblick from different sellers, with the intention to transfer usable parts so I can make 2 good ones. The past week I have cut out two broken roofs and replaced them for good ones. This sounds simple but was not so simple, the hardest part is not to break something. The old glue is very strong and melt the plastic together. I also cut away the paper and cardboard interior and transferred it to another station. This was also not so simple, many time I almost tore the paper, and it took me about 90 minutes to get it out in one piece. A few months ago I bought for the notebooks of my sons an expensive special cleanser, which I now use to clean my Faller buildings. And that stuff works great !!!!!!!! The 50 years old dirt flies off. I also have bought some Preiser figures with the typical 1950s charm. I'm not ready yet, but here's some pictures..... kweekalot attached the following image(s): |

When starting it, I clicked the status of this topic accidentally on informative. I want no informative light bulb attached to my Faller Schonblick topic because it is not informative. So, I want to change that and make the status blank, but how? With the option ''edit post'' it can't change it in a blank line. Marco |

Thanks for the photo of the product. I have reviewed the company's website and it appears they only sell in the EU. They don't have a representative/contact for the USA. I sent them an email requesting info and if I can purchase direct. Maybe I need to check with some local computer stores to learn if they are familiar with the product or have something compairable. Rob Hi Rob, I can buy it in Holland and sent it to you in the US, but I think that is a bit too expensive?? Maybe an other good TFT cleanser that you can buy in the US, works just as good. Let me now if I can be of any assistant. Marco |

Hi all, Time for an update !! I have now glued several original 1950 transfers, and made some lights in Schönblick. I also replaced the old SCHONBLICK transfer (the big one just below the clock) for an original 1950s new one, and it looks good !! I'm still doing more research on the year Bahnhof Schönblick first appeared in the Faller program, it must be around 1954-56. And I need a Preiser or Merten 1950 looking employee figure for the kiosk. So my Station Schönblick restore project is not yet finished ! Marco |

You have done a fantastic job. I even like the 3 rail track. So many of the modellers today want to make their layout as realistic as possible. Then there are the few that make them look "toy like" which I also like as well. That takes me back to when I was a child and had my Lionel trains and my dad had his Marklin which he would't let me touch.

Hi Ian, Robert and Stephen,
Thanks a lot !!
Robert, I especially love the retro & nostalgia part of our hobby. I bought a lot of C track in January 2011, but that didn't do much to me The C stuff didn't gave me the right happy feelings of model railways. For that I need the solid center rail.

I'm using this station on my layout, too. However, I did't like that name - "Schönblick". There may hotels, or castles which carry this name, but there isn't any town called that way. So I changed it to "Altburg Hbf".
I think Faller should do a re-edition of this model, with some facelift. It's a typical European 1940s/1950s design, much more realistic than all those timberframe stations. Indeed, timberframe station buildings are quite rare in 1:1 scale.
"Schönblick" has originally been a smaller version of "Flüelen", a H0 scale model of a station of the same name on the Gotthard line. The first batches of "Schönblick" were still made of cardboard, instead of plastic.
I'm still planning a few modification on my station, such as fitting interior furnishings.

Hi Florian, Now we meet again. Yes, I have seen this station in a combination of wood, cardboard and plastic. ("gemischtbauweise"). I found that version not as nice as the plastic kit. Can you show us a photo of your B 103 ?? Marco |

Hi Marco, many of these hotels and restaurants named "Schönblick" still exist today. I've already done a few improvements and additions to my Schönblick station. So, a lot of Preiser and Noch figures have been added. ^Vespa drivers passing the station ^ An American school bus in front of the station ^ Many people, and a minibus ^ A Dr. Krugmann bus in front of the station ^The track / platform side of the buildung, with a Piko E 11 Regards, Florian |

I've done some more improvements to my station and its surroundings now. Some new paving has been added, as well as some lawn and a few new detailing parts. Finally, I installed a few new overhead lights at the main entrance and at the platform - from Viessmann, and with cold-white LEDs, of course. Regards, Florian |

I've stopped counting the figures long ago. Many of them come from those unpainted Preiser kits and have been painted by myself. There are also a few cheap China figures which I have repainted.
But a train station just needs that large number of figures - they bring life to a layout.
I'm still planning to add even more details to my B-103.

Hi Iamnotthecrazyonse, That quote is from 5 months ago. In the past months I found out that Bahnhof Schonblick B-103 came in the Faller program in 1954. In the periode 1948 -1980 (the period which I find the most intresting in the Faller history) Faller has published over 300 catalogs, leaflets and magazins. The year of all these lovely books is known. For instance the Leaflet 055 you mentioned is from 1955 and is the brief short version of the 1955 main catalog a.k.a. booklet 855. |

I must have missed some post. I have 6 or so of these old leaflets and I was trying to help you date it however I couldn't find any way to date the leaflets. I can only see that one of them is from the transition time when most of the buildings were made of wood? But still no dates except on full catalogues of which I don't have many.

Hi all
So when did Faller stop making their models in wood?
Are there any photos of the wooden kits and what was in the range?

Hi Mike and Hi Iamnotthecrazyone,
In the 1967 Faller catalog the mixed construction models (wood, carton, plastic) completely disappeared. Before 1967 many of this mixed construction models were still in the program, for instance station B-108 and B-112 were still listed in the 1965-66 catalog as a mixed constuction kit ("gemischtbauweise'').
As regards Station Schonblick (103), this was a new item in 1953 but only as a already build version in wood. In 1956 Faller announced that they were preparing a building kit of 103 and in 1957 this kit indeed appeared in the catalog as a mixed construction kit (wood, carton, plastic). From 1959, the B-103 kit consists of only plastic parts.
