Regards Wolf
Speaking of Axis, the lithographed lettering "D.R.B." appears on the exterior walls of these pre-war era banana cars. Should we presume this to represent the syllables of "Deutsche Reichsbahn" rather than its two initials, or does that extra "B" stand for another word, as in "D.R.G?"
I quote from wikipedia: "The Deutsche Reichsbahn ("German National Railway") – was the name of the German national railway created from the railways of the individual states of the German Empire following the end of World War I. It was founded in 1920 as the Deutsche Reichseisenbahnen when the Weimar Republic (formally Deutsches Reich – "German Empire" – hence the usage of "Reich" in the name of the railway) took national control of the German railways, which had previously been run by the German states. In 1924 it was reorganized under the aegis of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG), a nominal private railway company, which was 100% owned by the German state. In 1937 it was reorganized again as a state authority and given the name Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB). After the Anschluss in 1938 the DR also took over the Bundesbahn Österreich (BBÖ, Federal Railway of Austria)." Hi Ray, thanks for tis information. But I must amend: D.R.B. was not an official lettering, official was DR. D.R.B. was used by the model railroad industry (as well as in MRR literature) to distinguih between the different "railroad epoche). Wolf

Hi Mike, At the club meeting, Glenn had mentioned white banana vans, I've tracked them down, but, of course, not M. Ian.

Thanks Wolf, for that clarification. I wonder why they decided to label that banana wagon with DRB instead of DR? |

Got another banana wagon.... Ians fault i guess :) The Märklin 72201 signal is in the background. My now 4 year old son saved money to buy that and he likes it allot. Not only on the Märklin follor layout but on his Brio railway and while playing with cars :) Really nice fun thing for small kids.

Hi All, Found this pic the other day. A Banana train belonging to AMC member Gary on his module as well, Marklin 37903 V90 at the head. I think the story here is that a bunch of Banana benders were hoping to trade their crop, for a few new cars, hence the empty Car Transporter, bet all they got was a few old 1979 Opel Commodores. Pic taken at Mini Euro Convention in Palmerston last year NZMarklinist attached the following image(s): |

Ian, The white van I spoke to you about was with a dealer in Germany and they claimed in was a white Marklin banana van. The photo looked very Marklin. There was no box and the item looked in poor condition. When I got back home, after our meeting I went online to buy it for you but it was sold. Sorry, that's why I never mentioned it again. A dealer I use often has a Liliput van hereOr if you prefer a Piko white banana van hereBR Glenn UPDATEI found you another one; Follow this link |

Ian, I know you wanted a long bridge overhead on your new layout, I think you should add another item to the list. Consider building a banana distribution center! |
