Hi I have my layout based on the 6021, plus keyboards, memory and one booster (6017). I am going to keep with this system which I like a lot. I am not very enthusiastic about the new CS (it doesn't have a serious look, does it?). So, the question is: as I need more boosters, can I buy the new ones and integrate them in my layout just like that or do I have to rush and see if I can still get the old 6017s before they disappear (I think they have already gone![xx(])? Cheers, Nuno

I use the LDT DB-2B boosters. They are functionally the same as the 6017 but cheaper (and still avaialble) You can get them as a kit, as an assembled board only or in a case. See http://www.ldt-infocenter.com/I really like the LDT products. I also use their light signal decoders. I buy the kits (much cheaper). |

Hi Nuno,
You can also use the Marklin DELTA Control as a Booster and right now they are very cheap ( about $ 29.00 Canadian )

Martin: That is true. I have several in use that I haven't replaced with LDT yet.
Nuno: If you go that way, make sure that if you have several that they all draw their signal source from the primary (your 6021) and not from the adjacent segment, since they impart a small propagation delay and if this were cumulative it might affect operations. |

Hi Thanks for your replies. So I can conclude that the answer to my question on using the news ones just like that is negative. Right? Thanks a lot, Nuno

Nuno: Missed that part of your question. I don't know much about the 60172, but the write-up on it says that it is for Marklin Systems and connects to the CS through a 9-pin connector, so it appears that it is not compatible with the 6021 at all. |

This is a tough call at this stage, perhaps based purely on conjecture, sometimes speculation The 6017 is used with the 6001/2/3, although there is a booster connection device under development, that can be used with the Marklin Systems. The 60172 is for Marklin Systems and from the systems architecture may be used in conjunction with 60125 (terminal) and 60126 (extension cable) |

I have two 6017 boosters with 6021.I also have Three 6002 transformer (two for two boosters and one for 6021). |

Means that the locos, signals, turnouts, etc, will respond with some delay? How important is this effect? 2 - This is only a problem of the Delta controller or it also happens with the 6017? Thanks for your help. Cheers, Nuno

This is only an issue for the delta control as booster. The delay is certainly not noticable for the use, but means that the digital signal on track will be slightly out of phase. Which means that when a slider is passing from one power district to anohter, a short occurs.
So, just follow the advice; all Delta controls and Delta Control 4f used as boosters, should take the signal directly from the central unit.

Lars is correct, but the chances af this are slim unless you have fed successive delta "boosters" from each other then join the end back to the primary signal. That is asking for trouble. If you feed each segment from the primary, it is really not noticeable (I do that for the segments I still have on the deltas)
Actually, I have heard, but have not yet tried to verify, that the delta controllers used as boosters pass signal in BOTH DIRECTIONS and hence would pass mfx signals back to the CS or MS. I may ry this when I have time with my MS. |

Thanks Lars, thanks Ron, I understand now. So it seems that the delta controllers have all the advantages over the 6017, except that they only supply around 30 VA, I think... so it also means that they only need the 32 VA transformer (6647) instead of the 6002... Cheers, Nuno

That can't possibly be correct. But you can very well use one or several Delta as booster(s) for a MobStat, thus getting n x 30 VA power. The Connect track should then be used as programming track only (as it has feedback, and has different signal than the output of the Deltas. The same accounts for the CS. If you want to use one old booster, you'd better only use old boosters. The slider lifter needed between new and old booster districts should (IMHO) be avoided to all costs. And, the filtering of the feedback is no cost at all, as the "feedback" is used for registry only. /Lars

Lars: I doubt that it is true, but I plan to set up a 6604 in a segment with my MS and place the lok on the tracks controlled by the 6604 and see what happens. I really don't expect anything, but I have heard it said that this is true, and the only way to find out for sure is to test it. |

Report that I trust say that once a mfx loco has been registred on the "PT", you can put it on the Delta supplied track, and run it from the MobStat, with blinking display. The blink tells that the Mobstat doesn't feel the loco; but it allows for "blind" driving. /Lars
