Saw this on ebay.com Anyone familiar with Design Shop Polzin and their selection of HO AC DC roller test stands?

The carrying handle that can test pantographs is interesting, that and it can test a Big Boy.

Is this shop still going at all?

I am moving to Canberra with work and will be taking locos with me and the ECOS 50200 to muck around with in between weeks and flight coming home back to adelaide.

Is the use of the roller set ideal for exercising loco and changing CV settings?

Does anyone have these at all?

I have varying loco up to the BR 53 so will the 6 roller set be sufficient ?

Anyone used this seller at all

I have the 3 place and 4 place rolling test stand from Marklin. (dealer didn't have the 8 place in stock). I also got a spare rolling wheel.
The reason that I needed the 8th place was dad ended getting a BigBoy and gues who services his loks!.Cursing

I found that the rolling test stands are great for use as a programming track, gear squeak finder, decoder troubleshooter, internal bad contact locater, consist matcher, speedometer programmer (have speedometer with roller accesory), and most often, wheel cleaner with loks containing the worm gear.

I am actually glad that I paid a little more for the 2 separate rolling test stands. The late era loks where all wheels are powered are a bit of a stretch for the 8 place rolling test stand. The rails are isolated so it is a quick plug move to make the stand either 3 or 2 rail.Cool

The only downside is that adding rollers to a stand is very finiky. I will have to modify it so it is a faster change.

A few north american railroaders (2 rail) loved the quality of the Marklin and got themselves one too.Flapper

I would recommend it for anyone that has to service a lot of loks. I would also recommend that any groups get one to share as it is a large investment for a tool. As my basement is being finished, I loaned mine out to the 2 rail club of which I am a member. Some have alread thanked me for it!.Cool

I did buy the larger Polzin test stand, and I am happy with it. Great build quality. If you email them they still may have some stock.

The other stand from ebay is the KPF Zeller.

maybe try and purchase it from Germany. The ebay seller tends to go high on pricing.

Hi Dale,
I have a Marklin three roller one that I got at a discount from Lokshop when the new Black ones came out. I also bought the Speedo thingy and got an extra set of rollers to give me five axle supports. This works for all the decapods I've tried so far and should be OK for a 53 as well seeing they only drive the back set of axles. That said I wouldn't mind one with more rollers for the Big Boy but will probably get a aTrain Safe display case with Rollers, same as Ian has Wink
The speedo is great for diagnostics and setting speeds, especially when you want to consist a pair of Loks ThumpUp

Hello
i going to get soon a roller test stand from a place in Germany its called BIMA-modelbau.
It comes with three rollers and you can add more rollers if you need. They said for a BIG BOY you need 5.
The people who bought them before are very happy with it.
As soon i know more and i tested it i post more

Greetings

Hello Dale,
Would you link to the item you bought at that price? I would like one that can handle a Big Boy and it costs 181 Euros although that wouldn't be needed all that often. Thank you.

Please let us know how it works out for you. I am very interested to buy one for the price and size. I did see your previous reply that linked to an Ebay auction for one of these through Scandinavian Galleries. About 50% more expensive than buying directly. The main deciding point for me would be if the test stand is enough to handle the Big Boy and, I assume, a permanently coupled Triebwagen such as the 3072 according to the Maxi's length. I emailed KPF yesterday but they haven't had time to respond to the questions. The Ebay auction mentioned previously does show a tender platform and black wheel supports (Laufkatzen). The KPF site makes no mention of the tender support base in HO but has an option in Z. So my questions to them were what's the difference in the black or red axle blocks, is the 10 roller supports offered with the maxi enough to support and test the Big Boy, and does it come with the tender support base? For 99 Euros shipped in your case it's a very good price as compared to the Maerklin test stand although that would have been my first preference.

I did look into the Bima test stand. It too is priced well but, as a personal preference, I'd rather the engine wasn't mounted so high off the stand as is shown in AC. The DC stand looks better IMO but we're after function of course. I asked them if they had any plans to remodel their AC stand to look similar to the DC stand. Less expensive and lowered locomotive mounting would be the goal there. No answer as yet but I doubt a change based on my inquiry would be justified.

Hello all,
Not too many comments on the KPF-Zeller test stand. Does anyone own one? The roller blocks aren't fastened to the stand of course. Any issues with that? Does the locomotive wander on the stand as it's running? They have a fixed frame attachment that mounts the locomotive chassis more rigidly onto the test stand but is it needed or is it just so you can check / lube the axles if you'd like? I've emailed KPF and no replies to my detailed questions. They don't offer their site in English. I'll have to call them I suppose. My German writing skill isn't that good for technical questions.

Here
is another nice and well made, by all appearances, roller test stand. The three extra roller blocks required for the Big Boy, as quoted by the seller/maker, are 7 euros each. The past auction prices have been very good, $60-$70. The drawback? 34 Euros to the US for postage.

What to do, what to do?

Hello

sorry a little late but i got my test stand ( HO) from BIMA-Modellbau a couple weeks ago. On the beginning it took a little to figure it out to put the loco right on the test stand. There are four cables( two red, two brown) there are connected to the test stand. Two are connected to a piece of C-track and two are connected each to a roller. I post a couple pictures so you guys can see what it looks like. I also tested a couple steamers on it. Worked all well. I connected a little piece of C-track ( cut it off from a broken piece) to the cables so i can connect the Mobile station. Works great. The test stand was with the 5 rollers and shipping around $100. I pretty happy with it.
