Hi uhwerk, The 382 banana vans were made between 1936 and 1950. I got some excellent information from our forum member LMS800 (Wolf), and I reckon my oldest 382 van is from 1939. Here's a couple of photo's of my 382 vans, as you will see some require a "little" repair work... Ian. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Hi Ian, The Migros 4738 only shows an Orange an Apple and a bunch of Grapes in the Kolls pic, you sure you haven't gone Bananas on this one and there is only one version of it. Then there was the Swiss Migros Insider Wagon for '06 which was a more modern version with Beans, Carrotts and a Tomato. Better for you than a banana, a dietition once told me |

Hello Ian, congratulations for 100 vans !! But how many bananas do you eat each day ?? In an earlier post you said, your oldest banana wagon is from 1939. In 1939 Märklin changed the production line, they changed the coupling system, 2 different banana wagons are possible in 1939 1. van with coupling system KK 3 2. van with new coupling system BK 4 and with one blade Don't mix this wagon (BK 4) with the post-war one with 3 blades Regards Wolf

When this is correct we have a problem : the van is a pre-war van with coupling system from 1950 !! Märklin started with coupling system BK 5 in 1950! Hi Wolf,
The van has BK5 couplings, held in place with what looks like a split pin arrangement and with a spring between the 2 couplings.

Hi Glen, The Scottish Banana Company....sounds good. If the van is yellow, white or brown and has Banana on the side of it, thats good enough for B1 and myself. I/we don't mind what gauge it is either, infact we're on the look out for an O gauge Banana van. Ian.

Speaking of Axis, the lithographed lettering "D.R.B." appears on the exterior walls of these pre-war era banana cars. Should we presume this to represent the syllables of "Deutsche Reichsbahn" rather than its two initials, or does that extra "B" stand for another word, as in "D.R.G?"

I quote from wikipedia: "The Deutsche Reichsbahn ("German National Railway") – was the name of the German national railway created from the railways of the individual states of the German Empire following the end of World War I. It was founded in 1920 as the Deutsche Reichseisenbahnen when the Weimar Republic (formally Deutsches Reich – "German Empire" – hence the usage of "Reich" in the name of the railway) took national control of the German railways, which had previously been run by the German states. In 1924 it was reorganized under the aegis of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG), a nominal private railway company, which was 100% owned by the German state. In 1937 it was reorganized again as a state authority and given the name Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB). After the Anschluss in 1938 the DR also took over the Bundesbahn Österreich (BBÖ, Federal Railway of Austria)." |

Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

But I must amend: D.R.B. was not an official lettering of "Deutsche Reichsbahn" wagons, official was DR. D.R.G. was used by model railroad industrie (as well as in literature) to distinguish between the different "epoche". Regards Wolf
