Hi all, Here we have my 1958 V200 006 with the classic box and instructions and a 1959 V200 006 with the "new" style box and instructions. Still after a boxed 1957 V200 to complete the "Set". Ian. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.usEdited by user 01 July 2012 10:28:31(UTC)

Hi Panayotis, Thanks. Both the instruction books look the same, the one that came with the 1958 V200 is dated 0158, and the other instructions that came with the 1959 V200 is dated 1158. Other than the date on them the two instruction booklets look identical. Ian.

Hi Panayotis,
With the booklet in front of you, at the lower left hand corner, there is a series of numbers, the last 4 are the date.
They are given as, firstly the month and then the year...ie 0360, is March 1960.
Ian.

Hi Panayotis,
I should have said the same method is used on the inside flap of many Loco/wagon boxes.

Hi Panayotis,
Thankyou, I believe it was either Ray or Stephen that told me, and so it goes on.
Have a great weekend.

Ian, I like your posts.
And The V200 is indeed a true real beauty, expecially when it's an old Marklin. I have the 30210, as you know not the real 1950s classic.

Hi kweekalot, Thanks. My good friend Dusan, a forum member from Australia, who has visited me here in Baden-Württemberg...Scotland, has over 20 V200's in his collection, and at the moment I'm playing at catch up. Ian.

Hi all,
Looking on information on how to tell the difference between a 1957 and 1958 V200 006 3021.
Some sellers on e-bay.de mention the area around the "fans" on the roofline....smooth versus pattern finish...
Any help much appreciated.
Ian.

Hi Ian, the difference is with the openings for fresh air (German: Lüfter ). 1957 they were "open", 1958 "closed". For better understanding I marked this in yellow on the attached picture. Regards Wolf

Hi Wolf, Thanks for the information on that, I've been watching a couple of boxed 1957 3021's on e-bay.de and just wanted some way of telling that the Loco is a 1957. Thanks again. Ian. I enjoyed our exchange of e-mails....

Hello Ian,
I don't think anybody mention yet that the headlights are completely different. There are only two, the top central one is solid metal and the bottom ones instead of having the regular tube like difuser seem to have two pieces of opaque plastic stuck in front of the loco. If you find a close up photo of the front you'll know immediately what I am talking about. I thought you would have one of every version. Because it is quite different that engine is also in my shopping list but for the moment I am not seriously looking for one. regarding the plastic headlight stuck in front it's only a guess because I have never seen one of that version inside. Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for that information, I've still to buy a 1957 V200, they are commanding a good price (around the 200 euro's) that's boxed and with instructions, so all this info will hopefully ensure I get what I'm paying for.
Like I said, every day is a school day....thanks for the info.
Ian.

Hi all, Here is my two 3021's. The first one is the rare 3021.1 with open Lüfter and the other one is the more common 3021.6 from 1961. I've made some pictures showing some differences. As mentioned earlier in this thread the first version has the open Lüfter, but it also has a drum reverse unit and light changing in the direction of travel. It also has the old type metal motor shield with no capacitors soldered on to it. And furthermore the plastic boogies only say "Made in Germany" and not "Made in Germany West". Here's the first picture showing the open versus closed ventilation grilles. Also look at the doors. The mold was somehow changed in 1961: The drum reverse unit: The old type motor shield with no capacitors: The plastic boogie: And of course the original box dated November 1957: If anyone has a 3021.2 it would be cool to see whether the characteristics for the 3021.1 mentioned also count for the later models. Kind regards, Thor

Great thread guys, learning heaps about the 3021, I have two in transit back to NZ and I think possibly one already in storage - I never knew about the open vent, wonder why they changed that?
And the reversed door handle was a surprise. I know one of mine is the early 006 road number but not sure about the other details until I see it again. Alas, no box or booklet, but they are a good runner all the same.
Keep it coming

The reversed door handle was a surprise for me too. I saw it today when I made the pictures. I also looked in some old catalogs (1959 and 1962) and you can see the differences there too. I've heard somewhere that the reason Märklin closed the vents on the 3021.2 was that open vents were more likely to break in the cast and therefore more difficult and expensive to make.

What s the normal price for an engine from the v200 series when they are in good shape? Seeing all this makes me want to get one too :-)

I bought my first 3051 (not the mint one) there, and received the loco the next day. The same with a Faller catalogue. So, I don't think you have to wait a long time till you received your rare V200 kit. Looking forward to your pictures !! |

Märklin produced from 1959 to 1970 10 different "kit 3921". Your loco of this kit looks like loco 3021 - produced 1958-1959. Regards Wolf

So you didn't have to wait long for the arrival of your loco, only 2 - 3 days. Not bad at all. Today I became a member of your you tube channel. Maybe I see your new 1959 V200 run by.... |

If you look at the very first picture -Ian's locos- on this thread at least the loco on the left seems to have the door the same way as the first version on the photograph included here. I suppose there were more than just one mold and one of them must have the door the wrong way around???

You are welcome, Ian.
Maybe I buy the beauty myself, but it is a lot of money.
I called a Dutch collector a few minutes ago, to check if the asking price is reasonable.
He told me that this 1947 T800 (version 4) Steamloco were sold 3 years ago for € 800 - € 1000, but now the market for 800 series Marklin has dramatically collapsed for different reasons, and prices dropped about 25% and even more. He told me that the value off a T800(4) without the original carton box is nowadays € 500 - € 600, so the asking price sounds super reasonable.

Ian, I owe you much apologies for tipping you the bad T800 loco. I didn't know it was a bad loco. I will bring the shop owner a visit tomorrow to tell him what I think about him and his so called T800.
