Hi everybody, recently i have managed to get the Kaiser Hofzug set, i wanted for a long time, it is really nice set, but the locomotive simply sucks, she does not run well and she is bearly capable of pulling the full consist, do you have experiences running this loco? I have found a Fleischman S10 on ebay, ready for marklin operation. Do you have experiences with this loco? Will she have enough power to run the full train?? Thanks in advance. |

Have you tried servicing it? If the loco was sitting around without use the oil may have hardened to the point in which it may be causing a lot of friction. I would take the rotor out, clean the axle, the holes where it fits put new oil and new rubber tyres. It might help. I don't have the set but I suspect -hopefully- it should work better than what you are describing.

hi. she is clean and oiled. only the rear axle is powered, with a faulhauber motor i think. the other two axles are moved trough the valve assy but there is when the problem arises, after a while running the three axles begin to disaligne and then the loco just stops..... |

Francisco I have this set .. there was an "update" after it was released which was an additional weight for the engine ..
Mine has never been run so I cant comment on pulling characterisitics but the weight would suggest it was a known problem
Cheers Sprogger

uuuuuu....appart of the lack of pulling power it is the problem of the alignment of the axles, i align them but after a short time running the wheels satck and the loco dont move anymore. I will keep trying to solve it, i will also order a new decoder and see.... In the meantime i will think to get another one, there is the marklin 37192 and the fleischmann 390901. i will try to gather further information about them to make a decision. Meanwhile the set will be pulled by an S3/6 or a T18 |

Sounds bad about Marklin´s S10... I suggest you shall try Fleischmann´s S10 with interface plug for decoder. Because in this locomotive you can put an sounddecoder! With Marklin´s S10 you are forcement to changed out all PC board in the tender if you want sound in yours locomotiv too. That means advanced personal in factory Marklin can only do that and it cost! Just an suggestment... |

Meanwhile the set will be pulled by an S3/6 or a T18 Do you mean that the wheels gradually move on their axles until the wheel quartering is out? Are hte wheels easy to turn on their axles? If the above two are the case, then you simply need to get them correctly aligned and add a tiny drop of loctite to the axle/wheel mating area. I have done this before with a friends Wurttemburg C after it demonstrated similar symptoms. A word of warning though, if you use loctite on the wheel/axles interface, use it sparingly and under no circumstances allow it to get into the the bushing in the loco chassis(where the axle runs through). The smallest drop in this area will cause the loco to stop completely (not unfixable, just a pain). Cheers.... Mike.

Ok, now in the house pc more complete answers to your replies. Ian, yes, it is the same set.
Mike, you are right thats exactly the problem i had before in a 3048, easily solved just squeezing a little the axles, in the s10, they move not that freely but i thought that was the problem, but in this loco, the axles are not rock solid like older locs, they are hollow in the edges so the sequeeze method was not very effective, i was reluctant to use any kind of superglue, buti think i will have to do it......
Once i get the broken gear. part number 32 2504 23, does anybody knows where i can find it? none on ebay right now. Cheers Francisco |
