Hi all I remember looking at a posting on this forum a while back that had a link to a catalogue or track plan with lots of pictures of a layout on it. From what I remember there were a number of photos of a man and children with a layout and in the centre pages it went across both. Some were colour and other B&W. The book was landscape style. Judging by the clothes I would say it was from the 50/60s era. I have looked at the Spanish site on both catalogue and track plans and can't find it in any of those. I have also used the search function on here and that doesn't throw up what I was looking for either. Can anyone help me from going insane as I'm sure I remember seeing it on here somewhere thanks Mike - I think I am Edited by user 03 May 2012 17:58:30(UTC)

I don't think it'll be the layouts books. 1)Do you recall which trains were running? Was it landscaped? If so, mountains, water, or mainly flat with buildings and industrial buildings?

Hi Ian
yes it was landscaped and on the right it had the 7051 crane against several sidings. These sat slightly above the level of the main ovals.
There were buildings and scenery but I can't remember any more than taht really.
Sorry

Hi Stephen
Yes that is the site I have looked at. Although your link has highlighted a couple more brochures I hadn't seen before
Thanks Mike |

The Marklin catalogs from 1947 - 1955 (around) were landscape style and I believe the 1951 catalog has a layout in the center that spans 2 pages. Was it one o these Marklin catalogs? They often feature images of adults and kids playing with the toys. On the back cover there are pictures of children playing with an erector set.

Hi Paul I've just had another look at the 1951 catalogue and yes it does have a centrefold layout but not the one I was thinking of. My memory tells me that the layout was about half the size of that one in the 51 brochure. Also there were more photos of the layout rather than line drawings as per 51 book. Thanks for trying. How about the trackplan in the 1971 catalog?
Also, check the layout in the 1970 catalog.

Mike I do wonder whether you are mixing up some of the memories. This description takes me back to my first pick which is the 1970 catalogue.

So we all know what we are talking about, here's a picture and trackplan for the layout in question. Bigdaddynz attached the following image(s):

I remember many hours as a child sitting by the fire and studying this very layout, wishing I could make something like it.

I actually built a cheapskate version of it, not having all parts as eg curved turnouts... But it looked somewhat similar in overall design...
I kind of miss these "sample layouts" in more modern catalogs... They do give some inspiration..
But of course, nowadays everything must be "model perfect" and some of the playing joy has actually been lost along the way... |
