Hey Guy's.
Has anyone restored a DT 800 and how long did it take you ?

Did you find the parts you needed to complete your project ?

Do many of the DT 800 bodies suffer from the "zinc-pest" ?

These are one of my favourite streamliner 800 series BigGrin

Neil.

Hi Neil,

I have never seen a DT with "Zinkpest". When the DT appeared in late 1950 Märklin used alloys which were "clean". Maybe some of the very first trains could be affected, but as mentioned before I don't know any cases. A DT is harder to restore than the other models of the family (ST, DL, 3025) because it has more special parts, which are only used in this model. While most motor parts of the ST etc are available as original or replica-parts the parts for the DT are not so wide-spread. At RITTER you get an original rotor for an ST for EUR 22.00 while you pay 75.-- for a part for the DT. The field-coil is isn't available at all while the part for the ST is also available and not so expensive.
But as everytime: A clean and running train is the cheapest to buy.

Regards

Markus

I agree with Markus, I have never seen a DT with zincpest on the bodies. The only loco in that family that get zincpest is the early versions of the ST 800 (really only the first or second version) otherwise the models are so "new" that Marklin used good alloys that weren't as affected by zincpest.

PS. It might be easier to just link the example images in your posts instead of downloading them and then re-uploading them on the forum. If you need help, let me know.
