Thanks for the link, Goofy. The Du2 looks nice. Marklin used to make one of the D class at one time, but I haven't seen one for a while. |

Goofy, what's the approximate list price?
Might give an indication of the price range of other "simpler" Marklin-compatible models to come in their new range... |

Well, that's in the M price range - not bad at all for a small top quality model manufacturer. |

Nice looking prototype.
Different from the AE 7/14 which marklin has made, but it also looks similar.

Hi Guys,
I would love to see this item supported, here is a letter, from Mr. Brimalm, in response to a question from me. just in case my attempt at putting it in doesn't work it can be found in archives under Micro MetaKit locomotives.
Jeremy.
Good Afternoon,
PLEASE go to marklin-users.net and look for the topic “Micro Meta Kit”. They were approached for three rail models and their reply was astounding.
There are quite a few of us who are looking for high quality 3 rail models and your company has been mentioned. PLEASE!!
I know you are busy but appreciate that you might take the time......
Yours sincerely, Jeremy Palmer.
The answer from Brimalm is like this (It seems to be ok by Mr C. Brimalm to publish it):
Dear Mr Palmer,
I have looked at the discussion at this forum and would like to make some short comments.
Like Micro Meta Kit we have build since 1992 brass models conforming to what you might call “fine scale” standard.
This means, among other things, that the wheel profile is much finer than on Marklin wheels. Also, the minimum standard curve radius specified for our models is 600 mm. (Some smaller ones will take 450 mm curves). The models are built for 2-rail pick-up.
Can these models be modified to run on Marklin track?
Yes, we can put a current pick-up shoe under the loco (sometimes at the expense of brake linkage details etc) and make it run on Marklin C-track with large radius curves and long switches. Electrically it is no problem nowadays thanks to multi-protocol decoders. But it will be a compromise solution that might satisfy a collector who will take down his loco only now and then to watch it run for a while. It will most probably not satisfy a “runner”, because the operation over switches will be somewhat uncertain and bumpy. Therefore we do not precisely market our brass models other than for 2-rail AND for fine scale track. We feel in order to market models for Marklin they should be fully compatible with the Marklin system in every way, including being able to run on the old track models and narrow curves. And to make this possible the model must be designed according to Marklin specifications from the start.
We are now, however, launching a new line of models with new technology and in a new price bracket (for us). We call this new product line “Brimalm Komposit”. These models with still be very fine models, but they will not be hand-built in brass, but produced with more “industrial “ techniques, having zinc (mazac) casted bodies and frames and cast small details in brass and plastic. These models will be offered for Marklin too – and in that case fully up to Marklin technical specifications in all respects.
The first of these models will be the Swedish State Railways veteran electric Class D. Please have a look at our new home-page which will be published in about a weeks time.
And please do not hesitate to write again if you have any questions. Feel free to quote from my letter in your forum.
Best regards, Christer Brimalm
P.S. I would not dream of looking down on Marklin models and call them toys. (I even collect old Marklin trains myself with great enjoyment.) Marklin or Fine Scale – it is a matter of two different specification systems (or model philosophies if you will). Both have their advantages and disadvantages and it is up to the customer to decide which type will be most satisfactory for him.

Jeremy...
Du/Du2 locomotivs is not an brassmodel...it´s just an compositmodel, which also means possible to negative sharp curves such like Marklins 360 mm radius.
Brassmodels and compositmodels is two differents world. So you can easy buy an Du/Du2 locomotiv for 3 rail and using it at Marklins tracks.

Here is an picture of Du2 locomotiv and it´s only prototyp. Locomotive will been arrived out soon under this autumn. The reason of why it become so late has to do about expanding with work machines at factory by producing more severals models from Brimalm and they are only few staff personal. Locomotiv weighs about 600 gram and fully metal with sounds. Locomotiv can been digital control headlights with both low beam and high beam. There is red tail light too. www.brimalm.com/index.ph...p;Itemid=179&lang=sv |

A bit of history on SJ D-series of locosThe SJ class D locos were first delivered in 1925 and they had wood panel loco body (as on Märklin 3670 [and other article numbers]). Steel body versions came later, still being class D. In the 1950-ies a modernized version came equipped with stronger electrical engines. These locos are class Da and the basis for Märklin 3030 (and GS800, 3018 as well as the green 3019, which never existed in Sweden in real life and the model version was probably was produced for the German market, where locos were green, but none of these class Da were exported to Germany). The class Du was created by retrofitting older class D with the new electrical engine developed for class Da. So to summarize the prototype for the engine on the photo was a more modern loco compared to the prototype for the Brimalm Du, but as Goofy states: "Brimalms locomotiv is more advanced and locomotiv at picture is Marklins old model from sixties."

The deliveries will start with the DCC version in October, Please expect your loco to be ready for delivery towards the end of November or early December.

Hi guys
I decided to send yet another e-mail to Brimalm earlier today and below is the responce to my e-mial.
"Hi Marius,
I´m very sorry for these repeated delays. You are not alone in suffering from this, unfortunately. We have had a number of unforseen setbacks. The zinc casting subcontractor delayed us a long time thorugh various troubles. Our electronics specialist suffered from a stroke. We have moved our business to new premises which took longer than expected because the building we moved into was undergoing rebuilding. Finally we found we must make new coupling rods due to a manufacturing defect.
I admit we should have sent out information but we have been so busy and frustrated with all this.
However, we are now nearing completion of the first batch of serial production locos (only a pre production series was finished and delivered to a few customers yet).
We will deliver the DC version before the AC.
You may expect that your AC loco will be ready during the summer at least. Probably sooner, but I don´t want to make promises that I can´t hold.
Best regards,
Christer Brimalm"
I suppose patients is a virtue. Any members out there who has seen one of these pre-production models?
