Gentlemen:

I have found that the LDT boosters are selling for about $85.00 US.When the Marklin 60172 becomes available it will be, by what I have seen, about $200.00 US. I realize that I will not be able to use the MFX recongnition feedback on any sections of my layout powered with the DB-2. If I set up one particular secton, say the train station section, with the marklin Mobil Station, I believe I can use the MFX system to register the loco.Is this also true for the CS? What happens when that loco leaves that section and travels over the sections powered by the DB-2? Will I be able to utilize the sound effects, smoke, etc.?confusedAny other reason why I should not use the LDT booster? At have the price it seems logical. Will be using six boosters on this layout.

You might have one section as 'programming track'(PT) where you put new Loks to be Recognized. Then move the Lok to the true layout track. As far as I can tell, you will be able to use all the functions (Except Lok recognition).

Run the track power from the PT to each booster as signal feed.

That is what I understand, also. I hae several of the LDT boosters on my (non-mfx) layout and they work great. If you have reasonable soldering skills, the kits are a real savings, too.

Gentlemen

Thanks for your info. I understand the principle behing using the PT track. I do not know how to wire it to the booster. If I power the PT with the MS and connect that track or section of track to the next booster using the transformer input terminals on the DB-2, I will be adding 18Va to the 42VA I will already be powering the booster with (6001). By connecting each booster to each other I will be sending the signal feed from the MS to each section (block) so that I can use the options on each loco no matter where it is on the layout.
Can I power the MS with another 6001 or would this overload the next booster?

Here is a link for the LDT booster

I wish to thank you all for sharing your expertise and knowledge.

Here is how to connect:
MS + trafo 1 to UglyBox track.
Connect 24072 and two bumpers to UglyBox track. This is "Programming Track".
To 24072, connect red and brown wires under track at one end. (Just to keep things simple, connect Brown to track.) this goes to 60129.

The booster cable from the 60129 connect these to the first booster.

Note: the 60129 is new for this year. May be hard to get at first.

Second note:
Since you have a 'programing track, there is no option of having a short when running from MS track to Booster track. When you add a Lok to the layout, place it on the "programming Track". The MS/CS will recognize the Lok and do the setup thing.

See here http://www.marklin.com/Marklin.pdf scroll down to page 12. Replace 6017 with DB-2.

Last note:
The UglyBox is the name for the 24088 connection track, because it is.[}:)]
