Hi there,

As mentioned elsewhere on the forum I'm the lucky purchaser of five Swiss passenger cars for my planned layout. The cars arrived last week and I rapidly set up a track oval to try them out. Unfortunately one of the second class cars (8746) seemed unable to pass my 8520 curve without derailing. (As it was the first car I tried, I got a bit nervous wondering if it was too long for the track radius. Luckily, the others ran well.) Further inspection revealed to me that one of the bogies was causing the derailment as it was obviously not the original part. Everytime the car went into a curve the bogie would turn and hit the coachwork which would hold it back thus letting the motion of the car lift the wheels off the rails.

I contacted the seller, a very kind fellow trading out of Holstein, Germany, who after we got past the language barrier* promptly offered to send me the correct part free of charge. So, to my question implied in the subject heading. How do I remove the faulty bogie? Is it a snap-fit? I dare not tug to hard at my newly acquired car for fear of breaking anything and the coachwork seems to be a single piece. This makes me wonder how they got the transparent plastic for the windows in there, or the whole thing out of the mould for that matter. What am I missing here?

Kristofer

*Not his fault at all. My German is very rusty and I rely alot on the similarities with Swedish which can lead to misunderstandings. Note to self: Der Drehgestell = the bogie.

Hi Kristofer and welcome to this forum. And welcome to the Mighty Small Scale!

Either the roofs of your coaches should be detachable, with the use of a thin-bladed knife, or the whole body should be able to be removed from the chassis. Marklin's usual approach is the former. You should be able to get the bogies off your coaches without resorting to something like that though. Get a little screwdriver, of the type used for electronics work (a good thing to have in this hobby anyway) and gently lever the bogie off. The replacement should simply snap back into place.

My compliments on the standard of your English. It is better than that of many native-speakers.

Hey Gary,

Thank you for the advise and kind words. I'll try to get it off with a screwdriver then.
