I had a closer look at the socalled toy trains presented in the 2012 Maerklin My World brochure. Must confess i am about to fall in love with the 29200/29201/29202/29203/29204 ICE/TGV imitations. On the one hand they look like simple toys for young children,on the other hand they represent the icons of fast rail travel as we know it today. The ICE of the DB is there, the Thalys between Amsterdam and Paris is there, the Swiss intercity is there, the USA equivalent is there, and the French TGV is there, what a magnificant team of trains! The recommended price is only some Euro 50.- per set,C-rails are included, the trains even have some sound functions. I think this is great stuff to collect and sharish, and a very smart marketing move by Maerklin! Sets are earmarked for delivery in third quarter of 2012.
Who agrees?
Cheers, Paul.

I agree, Paul. The real importance of these sets to me is that parents will want to buy them for their children and, more importantly, that children will like playing with them and expanding their carpetbahn layouts with more track and that this will eventually lead to an adult hobby and the love of Maerklin which we all have. Let's hope the sales will be great for Maerklin My World. Peter

Maybe some parents will take up the hobby themselves when they see the trains running. |

Was in a Maerklin shop in Rotterdam yesterday and saw a pile of 29200 sets, almost bought one. Surely will buy one shortly. For Euro 50.- i think these sets are worth every penny! Wait for the other versions to arrive in third quarter 2012,i want them all! 5 sets means a lot of C-track too!
Cheers, Paul. |

The 'My World' sets are a very smart move for Marklin.
I was hoping they would bring out a Trix version for those of us still in 'DC' land.

The fast train sets like the 29200 ICE are battery operated which means you can run them on Maerklin track and Trix track! The Maerklin and Trix C type track sections are identical apart from the fact the M version has power points in the middle. For the AC operated items in the My World catalogue i am sure you will find alternatives in the Trix catalogue. Have fun! Cheers, Paul. |

Tom, If that is the case, the difference is only 0.2 mm,that is almost nothing! I am sure the wheelrims of the My World ICE battery trains can handle that. Paul. |

K track is 2.5 mm and C track is 2.3 mm - and old Märklin wheels rattle on C track, but otherwise they drive OK.
So if the flanges are too high, the ICE could rattle on Trix C track. |

My wife gave me the 29203 Swiss ICN set as a Christmas gift, and I suddenly feel about 55 years younger! This is really one of Marklin's best ever ideas, and what you get for the low price is almost unbelievable. Highly recommendable even for adults. Sorry, I have to quit here, my ICN is waiting...

Indeed a great commercial idea, a nice way to attract children to our hobby and a nice way to keep safe our real locos they are not for children.
