Hi John, Strange, how you should mention this, it was only yesterday that myself and B1 were discussing world pricing on banana's. Good news on the Vegimite though. Ian.

Hi Svein,
It's great news that so many of our forum member's are enjoying an evening discussing, world pricing on banana's.
I hope in some small way myself and B1 have encouraged members to do so.
Ian and B1.

Hi Markus, Yes, that is very interesting, especially when you consider the time period on the graph, that relates to when I started collecting Banana vans. You will find that the price/metric ton has increased by 214.5 US dollars during that time. In my defence, I must point out that at no time during this period, did I buy any Banana vans from America. B1.

To prepare tonight's after dinner discussions, how many tons of bananas do we consume per person per year?
I think that banana car plantations are rather rare. |

Hi Svein,
I would reckon at around 50 Bananvogn's there would be signs of you starting to go banana's..
So, I'm still ok, because of course, I share the collection with B1.
It will only be when we reach 99 van's that the problems may start.
Ian and B1.

Hi Ian don't tell me there's a shortage of them. That'll mean you and B1 will have to pay more for them or start stealing them in the night. Mike |

Hi Mike, It's true, they have just peeled right off e-bay. You get them sold as individual vans over on e-bay.de, but the postage on a single van is crazy. I keep looking out for a bunch of them for sale. Ian.

Hi Brandon, Well done, next step is a photo. Was that e-bay in the states? I don't buy any Märklin from USA, because of Import Duty + VAT etc. We spend enough of that on parts for our '67 Firebird. Ian.

Hi Ian, What about the banana-crane? Essential for unloading bananas: This version of the 4611 (yellow/silver roof) was erroneous delivered around Christmas 1981. A test-run for the design of the successor 4671 was packed and delivered to the shops. Not really expensive today, if you find an auction which does not describe the car as what it is. Regards Markus

You need a banana magnet attached to the hook, Markus. 2% of the peeled banana is iron. |

Hi Pete, That was how I started, be careful. Just out of interest, how many different banana vans are there in Z scale, or only one type. I might buy a couple to add to the collection. Ian.

Even though there seems to be less than the UK and DE ebays, I'll keep in mind I don't have to compete with you here (j/k). I lost on the wagon, it was listed as "C-6" condition, and I didn't want to go overboard since the picture wasn't great. Maybe next time. I do have a 1950s Banana van (red box) that may be the oldest Marklin in my collection. I'll see if I can get a picture of it here later, I'd like to find out the year if I could. It may cost a lot of keep the Firebird up, but I bet you have the only one in miles and miles! |
