John, could not resist to send you this picture of a F7 from the Southern Pacific. Found this in an old ASTM journal (American Society of Testing Materials) from 1957. It was contained in a guest presentation given by the vice president of the SP, Mr. J. W. Corbett, on a scientific conference. It seems they also liked trains there. Hans Martin

Got 'em at ebay yesterday at a very reasonable price And a little story about how to find reasonable ebay prices. Three weeks ago I was bidding on another 3129/4129 and went well beyond €250. Anyway, I lost the bidding and the pair was eventually sold to someone else for (hold on) € 325 [:0] Yesterday I got them (new in box) for just over € 150 [^] Ask me if I'm happy that I lost three weeks ago? And what was the difference? Well, three weeks ago the pair could be found using the search function entering either "us" or "southern" or "pacific" - so a lot of potential buyers were aware of them... On the contrary, the set I got yesterday did not show up using the exact same search terms. Why? Because it was advertised as *Southern Pacifc* so due to the spelling error and the * in front of Southern the search machine couldn't find them. I stumbled upon them as I went through a particular sellers "other items". So... If you wanna sell and ensure the best price make sure you spell correctly and don't add any odd characters. Conversely, if you are looking for a good deal, try searching with alternative spellings or browse through a lot of sellers other items |

John, I hope that BN and MILW are ok also... My recently acquired 3181 got a new 5* heart plus an mfx pacemaker so now it runs with CS Here it is together with 3X 4181 and lined up with my 37623 I'm still debating with myself whether to renumber two of the 4181's to e.g. 9783 and 9738 which should be fairly straightforward... |

Yes, I agree, Steven. This is one of the best parts of this forum in terms of pics that I've seen. Any others I'm missing?
Only recently have US manufacturers been rivaling Marklin's attention to detail in these models. I have one of the more detailed Lionel F3s produced in the past few years and I still would give it to my Marklin and Alaska F7s for the best looking diesel locomotives.

Depends on what liveries you collect, Nikos. Say you look for BURLINGTON, and there is only the dummy available today. You surely might get her - since some time later the motor unit comes up. Murphy's law ... |

The last of the "masked" musketeers has arrived and in side view (note missing horn on dummy [:(]) ...and yes, there was another newbie hiding behind the "Southern Belle" Now do I convert to AC or buy a Trix MS with some Trix C-track and mix that into my future permanent layout...? |

A few of M's (almost undestructible) F7s never hurt, Svein. Together with the excellent NOHABs they're my favorite Diesels [:p][:p][:p] Coolness, what a parade , Palle - thanks for the great pictures !!! (BTW, my dealer ordered spare horns from M last year, easily) No bad idea with the TRIX MS & 2-rail C-track. Saves all that conversion headache ... [^] There's only one drawback w/ a mixed layout. You can buy 2-rail locos by the numbers, then [xx(] |
