I've got mixed feelings about these sets.
On the one hand you could say leave the plastic train market to Tomica
On the other hand, for 44 Euros they are certainly value for money. The oval of C Track has got to be worth half that.
Not sure about plastic wheels on metal track, but the idea of having the same track system is good. The play value is there, the sound module sounds the same as the budget board in many standard HO models. I'm getting fed up with that station announcement, so many of my locos have it.
Does it really just have one top speed setting though?
Could be worth 44 Euros for the track and the sound module!

Just got Robert's (RJF trains)regular email-he has those sets for $69 USD.I am tempted to get 1 or 2 as holiday gifts.I actually think this is a pretty good move on M* part. The train is battery powered, so less risk to small kids.It is also cheap enough so no worries about breaking an expensive train, and it looks pretty good.Further, since it uses C track and IR controller, it would be easy to transition to regular M*.

What an absolutely great way to get kids started with Märklin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From Thomas The Tank wood layout they can go on to Märklin and then finally onto the more serious Märklin. My grandsons (who are heavy into Thomas The Tank) will be getting these sets for Christmas, and then presents for birthdays and Christmas are set for the next how ever many years you want. At least they will appreciate my Märklin when I'm gone. Brilliant. An excellent way to get kids involved into model railroading. Who says Märklin is living in the past |

It is a wonderful way to get started with Maerklin. Maerklin should market and sell this set in the USA with an Amtrak sticker on it and English anouncement. Peter

Just a thought. Wouldn't buying this set give one a high efficiency motor + a sound decoder and an oval of C track for the price of a single 60760 kit. If it is the same parts, then I might really consider this..
Can someone confirm or "kill" my thoughts/suspicions? |

The 60760 is much cheaper, nobody said there is a high efficiency motor in that train (and BTW: M* normally call any DC motor "a high efficiency motor") and nobody said there is a DCC or MM decoder in the set (to make the IR control work there must be some encoder/decoder, but you can't presume it uses MM (even though the MM protocol is based on decoders/encoders for IR remote controls)). I don't think there's a DCM in this set. It'll have an el cheapo can motor. |

Firstly I thought the pixel aspect ratio was wrong!.......
I think it's a clever idea to get new young potential customers. It's almost imposable to buy a kid a decent toy these days, for any amount of money for that matter! One could even buy a few sets to get a decent length train! And from what said above at least you have proper track.
Now if Marklin can do a Z version, I'll get one for my nephew! Maybe I'll get the HO. |

Still, it's not bad value for 40 odd euros. And the C track extension sets are being sold under the 'My World' branding, so everything is there to make it easy to expand the set.

I believe that this set is intended to get young ones interested in trains, which is always a good thing. For the price you can not go wrong, and it may be good to have one less Playstation game for one of these sets under the Christmas tree. The train is not your regular Marklin train, but a cheap plastic train, battery powered, with plastic wheels. So it can run on Opa's layout without having to power up the Central Station (or ESU Ecos ). Yeah, it can even run without the track. Point is that the simplicity, sound effects and remote are adding to the cool factor with little kids. And yes, that was an ajckids kid in the video |

I have a few nephews that are all excited about trains and I think this would be a great start for them as they are all under 7 years of age. And Charlie presentation from your son.

Kinda like a step-up upgrade from the Brio wooden trains towards the "real Märklin ones", hope it gets more youngsters into the hobby... We need that... |

I know two very young people who also happily run their sets already; both circles are connected with switches such that they can nicely interchange and have even more fun running their train sets together.

That takes me back a few years, as this is the sort of thing I did with my cousins when we were kids, and we combined all of our Marklin to make one big carpetbahn. And I guess that is the whole point of this set. Sure, it may be cheap and even nasty (some have even called it junk) but it gets kids playing with model trains, and can be looked upon as a gateway product to getting the kids interested in the rest of the Marklin range.

I ordered a set for my god child, she is 6 years old. She has been playing with Brio trains and now she is moving up. Her little brother will inherit her wooden Brio trains. What I like is the ease of assembly and now electrical connections, just batteries.

Hi Glenn,
Well, it appears to run round great on M track, so if it's true what "they" say about C track, then it looks like a winner.
Kids should love it with the on board sounds, or at least B1 does, so I reckon the only down side will be you'll need a couple of sets of rechargeable batteries.
There is both an A and a B setting on the Loco and the controller, so you could run 2 of them independantly at the same time.
For 43 Euro's, it would be hard to beat it, and you get a complete circle of C track to run it on.
Ian.

Greg, I just purchased two sets from this gentleman Jonvandamm. He will take off VAT but the postage is a bit steep. My two sets, including postage cost me 111 euros. Good luck |

Sitting around after Christmas. The train has been a huge success. It got set up on a coffee table and my Grandson is the envy of all his cousins. He keeps going back to it. There is some speculation about the train announcements. The popular theory amongst the 5 and 6 year olds is that it is announcing a potty break. :-P

Hi Dimi, I have watched the development of power tools, computers, toys, and surveying and construction instruments from the early 1980s, all powered by rechargeable batteries. It was only a matter of time before serious railway modelling went the same way. It surprises me that it has taken so long. By the way, thanks for the video of the ICE, Ian. Very nice. regards Kimball |

Hi all,
Thanks, so far the only problem I've had with the set is when she enters a tunnel, then you have no control over it with the remote.
