...WOW ....!

Anyway,...in those times of world crisis, I often told myself that I prefer to spend my money into cute manufactured objects from Marklin, than trying to invest into paper bonds, .....junk bonds, subprimes Sneaky ....etc..etc...
They always keep a certain value.....and they give you fun...
Each year on Marklin catalogue there are few real collectables....but we never know in advance which one will become great collectables... Sometimes the surprise comes many years later.

The eBay sales for 26490 during the recent 15 days:
EUR 1.495,00 (buy now)
EUR 1.291,00 (auction)
EUR 1.895,00 (best offer)

The item offered by Pommes-Paul is no longer available.

As always: Buy Now prices don't mean much - you still have to find a desperate collector who pays the price ...
RRP is EUR 899,95.
Regards
Tom

So if you subtract the MWST/ Vat from the 899 Euros the set should cost about 980 USD plus shipping from EU country to USA, not the $1200 to $1300 US dealers are asking...I am not sure if this is because of Walthers mark up or the perceived rarity which I do not buy into. I do not see these selling beyond the equivalent of 1100-1200 USD in Europe despite the ridiculous ebay buy it nows.
This set has caused the Californa 26600 Set to sky rocket as well.....I bought mine new for about $650 to $700 and now they seam to go for 800 to 1000 with greedy dreamers even asking for more....one is on ebay now for $1800 ....don't laugh

I agree with this, current auctions with a buy it now or stupid starting price are not a good indicator of real value.

I did a search on 'completed' listings and not one of them was over 1,000 Euro. It does seem there are still some to be had at a good price.

I never saw this model before but I'm afraid it does not appeal to me anyway so I will not be helping to increase the value by desiring one.

Cheers

I can only say one thing!

It´s a must have. Apart from some bad paint and the Wabash-signs that are glued in a bad way I still recommend this train.
The blue colour scheme is much better than on the pictures. I wouldn´t be surprised if the value would rise much but double the price?? Espically since more members have reported alot of problems that are alot worse than on my set.

Check my review and othersBlue Bird review.

Since the Blue Bird is still in production, I wonder if Märklin Quality Control has by now managed to solve the bad glue and paint problems that plagued the first batches of this train? Has anyone received a recent batch of this set??
Best regards,

I would hope quality has improved over time and I had seen 2 sets in person with no paint dimpling, scrapes or glue issues. one was from first release and another from the second.
The set is TRUELY BEAUTIFUL, beyond what any pictures can demonstrate....
I really like the set, but the price seams to be a couple hundred too high in the USA for what you are getting ...meanwhile the CZ 26600 seams right on to me if purchased for 750- $850 US.
Because Marklin has so much product now and the fact that number of Marklin Collectors continue to decrease with time, I doubt anything recent will be truely collectible to the point of profit. We buy these things simply because we like to look at them (whether it be in a case or on the track) and tinker with them when needed.

I'm curious as to where everyone is coming up with the "value" of this set in the 1,500 - 2,000 Euro range. I just checked completed sales on both the US and German eBay sites and the highest (recent) price paid on the German site is 1,000 Euro (around US $1,300) and the highest price paid on the US site is $1,200 (which is the price I have been charging for the sets I purchased from Marklin/Walthers).

All that aside, I agree with many that this is a really beautiful set. The only complaints I have had so far is one broken side frame on a passenger car and one broken coupler pocket. Other than that, everyone seems to like it very much.

All,

No personal interest in this at all, (this set is definately NOT my cup of tea) but I noticed helmuts hobbies is advertising one set left at just under $1200 US dollars.

Beats the prices listed here see www.helmutshobbies.com
