If you have problems with your ACME Br185 not running smooth over turnouts this will maybe help you.

Take a Roco 42mm pickup shoe 86030 or 40500 and remove the plastic sideboard.

Then press down the loops a little bit.

Then you need to shorten the two original legs.

Start first with 1mm on both sides and work your way forward.

Pickup shoe should be able to go down to the bottom but not flabby longitudinally.

This is obviously beyond any warranty Cool

We had a discussion about this on a Swedish forum current C-track.

The shoe does not have enough space and lift locomotives in some turnouts.

This was posted on the ACME page of the website of Modellbaustudio Born (Rapperswil SG Switzerland):

"Information für Wechselstrom - Fahrer

Auf Grund von Testfahrten mussten wir feststellen, dass die Funktion der neu ausgelieferten Loks BR185 / Re 482 / Re 484 / Re 486 (mit Mittelschleifer /
Dreileiter) auf den Weichen nicht einwandfrei ist.

Wir haben uns entschlossen die Loks so umgebaut auszuliefern, dass die Funktion gegeben ist. Der dafür nötige Aufpreis für Material und Arbeit ist in
unserem Lokpreis enthalten."

Translates as "Information for 3 Rail AC Modellers

Based on testing, we noted that operation of newly delivered BR185/Re 482/Re 484/Re 486 with AC Slider for the third rail is problematic on switch tracks.

We have decided to deliver the locomotives modified, so that normal operations are possible. The added costs for labour and material are included in the price of the locomotives"

Looking at your photos, I am surprised that ACME was not able to incorporate some kind of recess (nest) for mounting the slider on the AC models. Most Roco, Hag and Maerklin AC models have this incorporated into the design.
I would think that mounting a shorter slider may be one solution. I wonder what the modifications made by Modellbaustudio Born consist of and whether they have manufactured a replacement part for the underside of the bogie that allows for proper positioning of the slider?

Regards

Mike C
