I have read somewhere in this forum that there is a maerklin shop in Singapore. Could anyone tell me the address? I am possibly going for a short visit to Singapore.

I paid Trains N Toys in Singapore a visit, they were very helpful but very very expensive. I wonder how that works, since I could order stuff from any of the US or Canadian stores suggested in another thread on this site for a third of the price after including shipping costs (which is what I am doing). I ended up picking a few pieces of C track I needed. Quite sad because I do need to buy a lot of stuff but at those prices...OhMyGod

One tip in case you do need to - ask for a 10% discount on accessories/vehicles and 20% on the trains and cars. If you are buying a lot of assorted stuff, ask for 20% off on everything. After a 20% discount, the mark-up vs. an online retailer in the US or Germany is a little more reasonable on most items. I empathize with them to an extent - retail space on Orchard Road comes with big overheads but not to the extent Toys n Trains charges. Also they have a mostly really old stuff with a big chunk coming from the 1999, 2000 and 2001 catalogues.

Its a different economy there (some what out of sink with the other parts of the world) super high-end shops and businesses. So if your a businessman working in Singapore, your compensated enough (probably enough, I don't even want to think how much rent is on a small apartment is there) to afford the local Train store.

I had a 12hr layover last month in Singapore but never left the airport do to the fact that I was too exhausted from work to be able to think clearly enough to safely get around the city. Plus I had heard about the inflated cost. Yes the grass was greener on the other side of the fence but that's be cause it rains so much there.

Just Like my local dealer is higher than what I can get on the internet, I'll buy from him when he has a sale or something I need to get quickly but I'll get other things on line.

Hi all,

You can forget about Trains N Toys in Singapore, Orchard Rd., the building doesn't exist anymore.
My international travel informant MI6 has told me yesterday.

I believe it's a family business with other stores, they probably just shipped the stock off to their Hong Kong or Brisbane outlets. The Singapore shop is still listed on the Marklin website so I guess the news hasn't reached them yet. That could frustrate a few travelers who don't belong to this forum (silly them) and might make the trip in to kill an hour or two (or need to wash some money)

Cheers

Steve
