I use a MS 1 but it has reached the end of the line, so to speak. Both in terms of functions as well as maximum power output it has become out of date. I run several old trains consisting of tin-plate coaches with lightbulbs inside, as well as 10 modern digital models and 1.9A just doesn't cut it anymore. The 60215 offers everything I need and goes to 5A, but it would cost me close to 900 euros including the little grey box it plugs into. That's serious money; I can also buy 2 MS II's so that I can run 20 locos anf have plenty of money to spare, but I'll still be at 1.9A.

So, here's my nitwit question: is there really no other way to increase the current above 1.9A other than buying a CS II 60215...?

You can use a delta control 4F as additionnal booster. It's rather cheap.

If it is a question of money, then it might we worth exploring the eCOS and other control stations in the marketplace.. I am sure that someone in Europe will be able to provide contemporary pricing for the other options..

Hi Oscar,
Another good option is the ESU Navigator. IMO a better option than MS2 and a lot cheaper than a CS1/CS2 or the ESU Ecos. The Navigator has an output of 3 amps.
Check these specs. http://www.esu.eu/en/pro...avigator-technical-data/
You may find it cheaper to buy from the US. Just be aware the model 50302 is DCC only. Some stores in the US only sell this version. The 50300 is DCC & Marklin Motorola.
Just read the Manual, it states the output of the 90VA transformer is 5amp, but 3.5amp max at the track output, and 3amp continuous.
Lokshop has a good price, http://shop.lokshop.de/p...lcp5273&x=14&y=7

Regards,
Brian.

Thanks guys! I'm willing to pay for a CS II, but only if is money well spent. Basically I need (much) more power and the ability to run more trains. I looked at the Navigator but I think I would prefer the ECoS, which seems to do everything the CS II does but at a lower price. Lokshop sells the ECoS for 600 euros whereas the CS II comes to 200 euros more.

CS2 will keep you up to date with the latest from Marklin. Costs more but the others are cheaper as they have to compete and do so on price. Freds point re the booster is worth looking at if saving cash is what you wish.
No point in which is better as ECOS users say theirs is best and CS2 says theirs is best.
On the other hand the cheapest is change the lighting in coaches to LEDs and dont run so many Locos at the one time.

Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

As I can see in the datasheet, the ESU Navigator does not support mfx - only f0-f4...

I'm going towards a CS2 (60215) when I can afford/need it. The old CS1 is still enough for my modest needs...

You will also have to purchase the power supply for the CSII so take that into account. It is supplied with the EcoS.

Oscar:

I am in the same spot. I have the MS1, 1.9A and have ordered the ECOS II. It comes with a built in power supply and a price that is a couple hundred dollars cheaper. Also I haven't really heard any complaints about the ECOS II so I am feeling comfortable about the decision. I hope to have it in October.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

How would this work in practice, i.e. how to hook up the 4F to the layout together with a MS 1 or MS 2? Every loco manual that I read states that only one power supply may be used.... (another nitwit question, sorry,,,,)

Regarding the CS II: I've read up a bit and am now also considering to buy a 60213 or 60214 at a lower price with an additional booster. Hopefully, in terms of price, this will be equivalent to a new ECoS.

There are several threads on that subject on the forum. Just make a "search" with delta and booster.
If you don't find, let me know.

I found that power interesting too but afaik it is only advised for big trains on 2 rails, not H0. I can imagine 5A is to much if there is a short on the track. Once a train of mine lost a spring and it got between the center studs and rails and it melted through the C-track. Not even with 5A but anyway...
