Hi everyone, I been running Z gauge since 86, but have only just started looking at Z on the internet. One of my main modifications is to add traction tyres. You can see the clamp marks on the rim from the lathe. I used slightly under size heat shrink tube for the tyre but without shrinking it with heat. You also need to find tube that has a constant thickness. But with a bit of trial & error you will find tube that is ok.

Hi Jon and welcome to this forum. I'm also a Sydney Z scaler, but for nowhere near as long as you!

Thanks for sharing that idea. Is that an ICE 1? What do you do with 6-wheel loco bogies?

Yes it‘s the ICE 1, this is also the first model I believe. In the very bottom left corner of the photo you can see the metal casting has white paint. The same model but a later version the casting stops below the white part of the body.

Attached image, 6 wheels. If I had the right size jaws for the lathe I could have clamped around the rim and not left clamp marks. But the marks don’t hinder running.

Thanks for the photos. Where did you get the Bord Restaurant coach? I've never seen one of those before and I'm becoming insanely jealous!

I made it myself from styrene sheet, various thickness from 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5 etc. The glazing was some bronze poly carbonate, & the highlight windows I pre-curved before cutting the poly cabonate to size. The paint was a car touch up spray can. The logo was some Letraset, then a clear top coat spray. The logo is not exactly right but good enough for me.

It wasn't too difficult to build, & if it didn’t work I could put back the old body.

Attached, ICE 1, 58 grams with lead.
