Hi, Newbie here I have just been given a 1970's vintage Z-gauge mini club 8900 set. Everything seems in excellent/near mint order. The only thing is I don't have a transformer to run it. Can anyone please point me to a suitable transformer please. I believe the correct original variant would be a Marklin Z 6731. I maybe able to source a far newer Mini Club Transformer 05. Would that work ok ? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Yes, The newer transformer 05 or 6731 8 volt output can be use with mini-club loco.
Any other 12-23 volt transformer controller may kill mini-club loco motor. |

Hi, Thanks for the quick responses and warm welcome guys Any idea where I can locate a 6731 or perhaps an 05 and what sort of price I should be expecting to pay ? How about replacement parts for the loco and where can these be sourced from. Given it's age (nearly 40 years) if I needed a new motor can a replacement be bought easily ? Thanks

I would try ebay as a starter. Ebay.de will be a better bet as more were probably sold there than the UK. Look for a German seller that uses paypal and you don't incur bank charges for the conversion to Euros etc. Spares for Z gauge I'm not sure but someone will be along to help I'm sure. |

You might also want to check E Bay.com which is the US market. Considering the exchange rate, the price may be better, but just don't forget to caculate the shipping cost. I have watched items on E Bay and sometimes they are bid above what you can purchase them at retail and not have any shipping cost. May I suggest that you stick to a Marklin transformer, Micro Trains also sells a transformer, but it has a mark at which you should not move the throttle any higher. You need to be careful not to cook the engine. The original engines had 3 pole motors and were later upgraded to 5 pole motors.
Good Luck and welcome to the form.

Hello and welcome to this forum, and welcome to the world of Z! Have a look on eBay Germany - trafos are always being listed there. In particular look for a seller who goes under the name of stampino, whom I cannot recommend too highly. He usually has a big range of items, including track and rolling stock, and the odd loco or two. His prices are reasonable and he won't rip you off on postage. |

Hi all Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the US run on 110v mains whilst Europe is mostly 220/240v. If so, then be careful buying from the US. |
