My first Märklin trains came from my father, he bought it in 1962, I was born in 1971 and I started playing with it at the age of 7. The set had a 3000, a 3037 Kit a 3016 (actually a DB 800K) and the Queen of the locomotives a 3015 that was not given to me until the age of 14, it was a hidden treasury of my father In the mid 70 and 80 my father also bought a 3047 a 3031 a 3011 and 3005.
Today I have expanded my collection to almost 200 locos.
In this moment I have this list of oldies: 3002, 3003, 3005, 3011, 3014, 3015, 3018, 3026, 3047, 3046, 3030, 3034. I am still looking for a 3012 and a ST800 but for the rest of this year I have no more budget!
Regards
Eduardo

My first Märklin locomotive was a 3003 BR24, I traded it in to get 3074 BR216 in 1975 I think, when that model just game out in the ocean blue/cream livery. This is the locomotive that based my vote on (36-40 years), since I still have this loco and it's still running converted to digital. I always regret selling my 3003, and have never since that time sold any of my locos. I have in later years bought 36240 a BR24, as a replacement, and I'm very happy with it.

My first set was the 3000 tank loco, with 3 "thunderboxes"! and the "TINY " blue trafo from 1959 - all still working and running....matter of fact just serviced the thunderboxs, set the couplings, and wheel widths for better running on my C track, and what a joy to see them back in action again! Noise and all....!!

Here's my first loco, a V200 purchased as part of a 3122 starter set. It was purchased in 1971 at age 11. At that time my cousin worked at the NZ Marklin importers, so she was able to get the set and a 30va transformer for me at a discounted price.

Got my first for Christmas 1963... The 3003 BR24... Still have it...

My first loc

Second one was a 3029, third 3000 and finally a 3067 Nohab when it was introduced...
The 3067 was bought when I had the 3005 BR23 planned as my "big" loco, but the Nohab
looked "cool", and really redefined my values regarding "metal" and pulling power...
Heavy metal, SFCM motor, 4 traction tires - it could pull "anything" and survive...

Miss 3 (at the time) and I had never heard of Marklin until my (then) brother-in-law surrendered his Marklin set to us.. For us it started with a railway crossing set.. The original analogue Santa Fe set is still around, but it is sitting at the bottom of the Markin toy box.. It was replaced by a 39607 Swiss Collection #4 loco and from then on we were digital.. My first set was in 1967 (or so...) when I was all of about 2 years old -- I don't ever remember a time not having Märklin.
We were living in Amsterdam and I had the measles (or somesuch) and my father decided a train set was the cure!
He brought home a Märklin starter set (3000, plus coal hopper and flat wagon).
I still have everything (in fact the 3000 is sitting on my desk right now, but with an ESU LPmfx).
Cheers,
Damon

Starter set 3203, bought by my parents for my older brother and me, Christmas 1967 or 68.

Ray, I guess I'm not a true Marklin fan Wink : my parents bought the (almost) luxury set with the 3003 then bought the Capitole loc, and the 3065 switcher engine.
I still have them, but quite worn out :-(
It's only many years later that I got into Marklin again, and the 3000 was not my priority. I must admit, I don't have a 3000 or CM800 Blushing

Cheers,
Ricky Smile

PS Maybe you should do a poll: who owns a CM800 or 3000 from childhood?

A 3000 was the 2nd loco I purchased, but I no longer have it. I gave it to my sister for her kids, and I think she still has it. She was talking about making up a Christmas diorama for it, and even went as far as getting me to get some more track (M track, of course) for it. Not much more has happened since though.

Hi,

Thanks for the poll.

I have no Marklin childhood memories at all. I only remember Hornby Dublo, Fleischmann and Triang.

In 2005. I took the plunge and got a Marklin mega start set, and really liked the models and technology.

regards

Hi,

My first loco was 3003 (not 100% sure).
I think so as I do not know the item number at that time: 1959 and I was only 4.
Of course it was a Christmas present for my brother (he was 8 years old) and me.
The only items survived to my brother are the tracks, rusty but still usable and the transformer.
So few years ago I bought the 3003 in the Hobby range, even if I run digital.

Cheers

Renato

My first was 1960ish, the 3029 with flat car and "kipper", a 10va transformer and (I think) 6-piece oval. The transformer tended to get really hot when a few lights and stuff were added.

My parents purchased a second-hand DA800 for me in 1969 when I was 12, birthday present it was. Then I purchased my kit form 3039 in Frankfurt Airport Duty-Free shop. I just remember both of them had a hard life in my teenage years, but they survived and are still in my collection today, now sporting Delta Decoders. Oh yes, I have the CM800, and you can see them (2 of them and 2 x 3000) chugging around my automated layout thread while Crocodiles and Borsig watch them go, so that makes me a genuine Marklin enthusiast !

Hello,

Mom and Dad gave me my first set in the spring of 1973. I was ten and we were living in Germany at the time. It was a 3054 BR 103 Intercity with four of the matching tin plate IC cars. My first 3000 came barely a month later ... the first engine I could afford with my allowance.

Oddly enough, I was feeling nostalgic yestereday afternoon and disconnected the MS2 from my layout and plugged in a couple of transformers. Guess which train came out fristWink BTW, my oldest 3000 was the next engine on the track!

Bye,
Rob

I got my first Märklin as a christmas gift from my parents in 1991, as a 6 year old kid. It was the starter set 2905 containing a 3000 loco and 4 cars, a perfect start in other words :)

At the beginning of the seventies.

A nice starter set with a 3029 an two freight wagons.

Found in a shop after Christmas at a very low price
because of not being sold.
