Great collection Pedro!
That is the only way I know to properly display it: on a layout...and running!!
Thanks for the nice pictures, I just felt 60 years younger!

Hi Mike,
I was indeed!
Food at the school cafeteria was awful anyway!
But girls liked skinny kids Love Love at the time...which compensated for my known and well-documented addiction to "toy trains"Laugh
And I would come home at lunchtime to play with trains too, while other kids were just fighting on the playgrounds.Flapper

A 3018.2 (aka 3030.1) and a 3063.

4075 x6, but only 2 in good shape (the other 4 and the 3059 were bought by my parents when my brother and I were kids, and we LOVED to crash trains at that time) Mad

Oh, and I also have the 33292, so that's one more on the forum!!

I also had the 3045 until recently, but sold it to make some cash... I'll buy it again when I have more money, maybe in another life!! BigGrin

Cheers,
Ricky.

Hello all,

in my previous post I forgot to mention 3 SJ cars with real wood panels that were never listed separately in the catalogue. They are actually the 3 cars that compose the 2670/2870 set, but were sold separately, I guess Märklin had made too many of those and not enough loks???? Unsure I do not have them here, they are in storage, not in California, so I cannot give you the references, but as far as I recall, they are 5 digits starting with 8, possibly 82xxx or 83xxx. I bought them in a store about a year after the 2670/2870 sets were released, and never saw them after, either in stores or on eBay.

Can somebody tell me some info on those (why they were sold separately, etc.)?

Thanks a lot!!
Ricky Smile

PS No, they are not for sale, sorry! Smile

Ricky not only are you a perfectionist with scanning, you share some of my other passions also.

3018/GS800 - I have two of them, one in an original and rare boxed set 3118 from 1957 with the three coaches. It is very special as it came from an old family friend of my parents and for many years I never knew they had Marklin (it just never came up) - when I visited them to tell them of my Mum's declining health, it came into conversation (I ALWAYS find a way to get "Marklin" into conversations) - next I was led into a room with a very forlorn layout that had not been used in years and the interest had gone - I immediately said "when the time comes....." and sure enough eventually we made a deal.

But even better than that, is my Le Capitole. My Dad had 2-rail when I was growing up, and he could not afford Marklin, but he clearly knew quality as his one indulgence was a Hamo 8359 loco purchased in the 70's well before they became rare. When I went into Marklin in the early 80's it was quickly claimed and became even more special after Dad passed away. It took me nearly 20 years to get the first of a final set of coaches, I now have a total of 6. 4 in very good condition and two that sound something like yours.

They were used for darts practice and have little holes in the windows - but the most bizarre aspect was that they too came to me (in a round-about way) from other family friends of my parents and once again, I did not know they had Marklin although my older brothers tell me they remember it - probably I was not allowed to know because I was a bit 'active' as a child with a short attention span and perhaps there was fear I might get too excited. Those two came with a 3059 also which had obviously hit the floor at least once because the cab roof at one end was on quite a lean - and once again, little holes in the windows!! - I was able to 'very' gently straighten the cab and with new pantographs fitted it was quite respectable again - the roof wiring mounts are damaged but only on close inspection - not sure how or even if I can ever fix that as I doubt parts like that would ever be available without buying a complete body shell and I'm told you can't buy body shells for rare items (for obvious reasons) although you would think if you had a genuine one to exchange with they might allow it.

I'm sure Ritter could restore it but it's not a priority.

The parallels between our stories are quite remarkable. I'll post up a picture of the SJ set, and one of the Le Capitole consists can just be seen in the rear of my display cabinet photo also attached.

Cheers

Seriously though, barring some items still not received from last year and also a couple of this years' items, I am doneCrying.

I now have, IN MY MIND, a nice cross section of trains that will form my modest model railroad empire. All eras, some weirdness
like the Transparent ICE, some things that became favourites, the Mallets, F 7's, Krokodilli and my Swedish Woody Collection.

Most important of all though.....op went well and you are now resting comfortably at home I hope?

Hi Jeremy,

Re the transparent ICE, interesting - is this the early version from the front of the 87/88 catalogue showing three of them in different colours.

I have a transparent Cl. 216 (3075) a funky yellow/green colour from the same time, I think they look better than just clear transparent like the three digital loco's (I got one of those too).

The transparent Cl.3000 from the 50's is one of the hardest to get.

Can you post a photo of your ICE? (unless it's the very recent one, I've seen that). I only found one photo of my 3075 Cl.216, partially obscured and top view only - the tinted colour however is accurate (ie; it's not yellowed by age) but still looks heaps better 'in the flesh'

Cheers

Hi Steve,

playing darts on Le Capitole? It's amazing how we could behave as kids, but of course we realized that way too late! Blushing

The actual Capitole had 8 cars, 6 1st class cars, 1 restaurant, and 1 1st class/baggage compartment, these two were obviously not produced by Marklin. Märklin discontinued it when the new Grand confort material was introduced, making it rare because not produced for many years. The complete red Capitole was actually produced by Roco some time ago, with all 8 cars sold in 2 sets.

Watch the nice video with the red Capitole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g_cQf3xzyo Notice the BB9291, which is the number on the 3059!

And the new Capitole with the CC6500: http://www.elektrolok.de/news/akte-e/sncf_capitole.jpg
But I'm sure you know all that already!

I also love your 3118 set. I bet it is quite rare with the box!! Most of the people who bought these sets discarded the box because it was too big, and there were not many collectors at that time!!! If only I had a machine to go back in time!! Drool Drool Drool

Cheers,
Ricky Smile

The Airfix cattle wagon, bought by my father in the sixties is one of the odds pieces in my short collection.
Not Märklin but maybe still intersting for widening the scope.
