Hello:

I'm sorry to have to bring this subject up again, but I was wondering if anyone on the list knows how to get a CS2 (60213) to communicate with a window 7 based PC using an ethernet connection via a DLink router? I'm trying to get my computer to run my layout, however, I cannot get my two machines to communicate. I have tried Rocrail and Train Controller 7 and each time I go to run the program (Train Controller) i get the error message telling me that the CS2 is not responding. I'm at my wits end with this and about to pull out whatever hair I have remaining. I'm sure that it has something to do with the router, however, it probably requires a whole lot of codeing and numbers (all of which is Greek to me). Is there any websites that give a step by step way of entering the right protocols in which to get the two machines to communicate with one another. I'v had responses from people about Rocrail. however, most people I have spoken with all use the MAC system or are using Ecos controllers. In retrospect, had I know that this would be so complicated I would have invested in a MAC and an Ecos right from the start.

Any help would be appreciated

Hallo James,

Sorry to read about your doubts, however PC & CS2 are not that bad.

The first thing to do is to make sure your PC can see the CS2. Open Internet Explorer and put in the IP address of your CS2 in.
You should be able to see the help screens in the browser, if not, we need to fix this problem.

Hello Pieter:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Since my last post I have been able to make some headway. I discovered part of my problem was that the computer's firewall was interfering with the communication protocols. I can now turn the CS2 on and off. However, I am still not able to control any locomotives. I believe that it has something to do with the Marklin MFX decoder settings and the Rocrail interface. The tutorial mentioned setting up the MFX/CS2 and the software. However, I have gone to the wiki pages and can't seem to grasp the concepts there. What I need now is to find someone who has been able to get past this point.

Considering that it only took me 8 months to get to this point, I figure I should have the system up and running by 2020 BigGrin

Hi James,

Great,BigGrin I always test that ON&OFF a couple of times to make sure we have comms. The next thing is to check if you can switch points.

MFX locos on the other hand are quite fiddly.Cursing Cursing You need to get the MFX address of the locos, from inside the CS2 by making a backup of the loco database on a memory stick & then see what hexadecimal number the CS2 has allocated for that specific loco. Convert that HEX number to decimal to enter it in Rocrail.

First try a non MFX loco and use the MM number to see if it works, then do the MFX thing. It is actually not that bad once you see how clever Cool it actually is.

Good luck & have fun.

Hello Pieter:

Bad news today my friend. I switched off my CS2 last night and now, when I go to to try it again, nothing happens. I had a friend who know a lot about networking stop by and he tried to get things happening again for me, but no luck. There is something in the CS2 that won't allow Rocrail to work, or for that matter, to work with any of the software I've been trying to get to work. It seems that although both machines (my computer and my CS2) are communicating with one another there is something that won't allow the programs to function. Both the CS2 and my computer can ping one another, but after that... nothing. Since I live in a region where there are no Marklin Gurus living, it seems that I won't be able to control my layout via computer until I switch to a North American system and use Digitrax. Sometime living in this wasteland is such a pain in the butt. If ever I win a lottery I will send everything lock stock and barrel bac to Marklin and either get them to work things out or get a refundConfused

James,
It has been a while since I had RocRail up and running and not since the last CS update, but do you know if the "server" is up and running on the PC? It usually shows up in a separate window and you can see the communication sent to the CS.

Hi

Just read about your problem.

I have got my CS2 and Rocrail communicating and working properly.

However, I have my PC (Win) connected directly to CS2 via ethernet cable.

My CS2 IP ends on .54, had to set up my PC to .53. For some reason if it was larger then the CS2 it did not work.

Every time I start up my PC and CS2. I need to however change the PC IP (on CS2) from .53 to .54, save that and then change it back to .53 again.

Don't know if this is the same issue you have, maybe worth a try.

If any one knows how to fix this problem and also assist me, please feel free.

Cheers

Hello James,

sorry to see that you have problems to get into contact to your CS2 from your PC. Fist thing you must know: the CS2 is communicating via UDP protocol. Most Mac/PC-operating systems have firewalls blocking the UDP traffic. So you must enable UDP traffic on the PC side (or in other words: disable the firewalls).

Furthermore: you need not only a physical connection, but you must also ensure that CS2 is using a different IP than your PC network card, but within the same sub-net! When both are connetced to a router, the router should ensure this (set the CS2 and the PC to get their IP from the router via DHCP, but you can also set this manually).

Don't forget to set "Gateway on" on the CS2 side.
If you forget to set "Gateway on" at the CS2, the CS2 might still listen to commands, but will not respond or talk back!
Perhaps my CS2-to-Mac FAQ might help a little bit: http://simpledigitalloco...ve.npage.de/sdl-faq.html

There is a little tool of mine available to test the connection between CS2 and Mac/PC/Linux: C2XH, download via:
http://c2xh-mafi.npage.de
This offers also an easy way to retrieve the mfx-loco-ids out of the CS2's backup-files.

And: latest version of TrainControler is now able to connect to CS2. And you can use also the demos of WinDigipet and iTrain on a PC:

Cheers
