Hello

I have been thinking about joining the insider club, but here in Melbourne, Australia it seems to be quite hard to do, I know about Nathans trains website but it seems out dated.

How much benefit is it to join? I know about the wagon? when do I need to sign up before to get that? and I get the latest catalogue at the end of the year to I believe. What about the Magazine? how often does it come out, and is it in English? is the same as the German version?

I'm thinking of buying the BR50.40 and its freight cars, can I order this from Lokshop and pay their nicely discounted price for it?

Basicly I know almost nothing, help me out guys.

Hi John,

Interesting topic, I'm also not a member of the Insider Club.

Let's see what the benefits are, if any.

Ian.

OK, to get the free Insider Car and buy the Insider Loco and get the Year Book must be a member before FEBRUARY of the year.

2 Magazines the Marklin Magazine and the Insider Magazise both 6 Issues a year.
Both are about half ths size of the German Issues. MM about 64 pages V 128 and Insiders 16 V 24-32)
Can take up to 2-3 moths to arrive . Used to be ( for ONE Year only) 14-18 Days back to about 2 months PLUS.

Depends on point of viesw. SOme interesting information and track plans etc. advice on layout building and info on upcoming models.

Value for money depends on you.

Control of the Insiders Club has been taken away from Local Distributors and centralised in Germany. You can join up from the Marklin German Site (Difficult) or Via Toottoot in NZ or the Marklin US Site. all Easy.

Very difficult to communicate with at times.

Hi John,

If I were yourself, I would phone Marklin one night (after 9pm your time),
0011 49 71 61608222,
give the lady or man your credit card number and say you want to join the Insider Club, but insist at the same time that they air mail the order forms for the Insider models for 2011. Be quite firm about that.

Don't be put off by their brusqueness or apparently rude phone manner (some might call it arrogant) - they tend to be that way by nature, but are really quite big teddy bears underneath. (I know, I have a son-in-law who comes from Germany).

Anyway, give it a try. The man Noel at Nathans Trains is away in Malaysia at the moment, so there is little point in phoning him.

regards
Kimball

so it sounds like what your saying Kimball is that the only way to get the BR50.40 is through marklin itself? is this right? does anybody know how much the full set is going to set me back?

No, you should be able to get the Insider models off ebay, after they have been delivered to members. However, belonging to the club is the only way to guarantee that you get these items. As for cost, I was just talking to one of our Marklin club members, and he reckoned about $1600 NZD ($1200 AUD).

Hi John,
I am suggesting contact Marklin for the initial joining.
After that, the Insider model ordering and distribution is handled by Nathans Trains.
The Insider model will only turn up in Australia around the end of the year, so you have plenty of time to save for it.
My guess on cost is around $700, it is listed at Marklin.de as 430 Euros.

Yes, certainly David is correct, to ensure you can get it when you want it.

As to the cost, these are only guesses, as we are not the retailer, I am just going on previous purchases as much as anything.

I am a member as I enjoy the magaiznes and articles plus first dibs at Insider models if required. Biggest down side is the communciation with germany, very slow and the magazines used to take 4 mths to get here. After Marklin bought a new carrier pigeon the last mag was only 2 months old so hopefully will upgrade to the Albatross :)

Overall I am happy but the slowness of the mag irks me still Glare

cheers Dale

You can sign in any time. But you must sign in before March 31, 2011, to receive the orderform for Insider loco, car sets, and free Insider car.

If you sign in later, your membership year will run e. g. from July 2011 through June 2012 - so you'll get the orderform for the 2012 models (without knowing what they will be).

Tom

Best of luck. This is a poorly run club outside Germany but maybe they wil allow to join and take your cash and even send you mags etc.

Save your cash and buy something Marklin instead is my view.

Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi Kodiak
you can join by just logging into our toottoot.co.nz website and we have
a quick access button for signing up
to me the club for 109 us gives you
12 mags a year
The annual catalogue big thick edition
2 DVD'd a year
your club car ( worth about 40.00)
the insider special offers each year and that can be two or three offers
the biggest thing is the regular flow of information direct from germany
and the reason the overseas one in smaller is that the information
dropped out is all the local german club information that is not
relevant for us , and it also keeps the weight down for international
postage.
we can have your catalogue sent to us and we just ship it on in most cases
the chaps are ordering and we include it with their orders
If you ring them, they will answer in german, just ask her can you speak in english
and she will just drop straight into English no problem
which ever way you go most here do feel it is worth it when you add up all you
get for 109 us which in your case would be about the same in aust dollars
regards
bryan old toot

this number puts me through the tech department, they gave me the same number with ending in 213, which goes gets answered by a recording in German, and then it disconnects.

Hi kodiak,

I've been a member of the insider club for 2 years and there have been some ups and downs. Paying for membership is the hardest part of joining the club. Once you have paid everything seems to work well. Yes, you have to wait about 6 weeks for the mag to arrive, but the reading is interesting.

If you're hell bent on buying the insider model, then I can offer you this tip. When you receive the application form to buy the model/s you want, don't send them to Nathan's train, instead join the club at Hobbyco Sydney for $22.00 per year and receive 10% discount on everything from Hobbyco including the insider models. I'm not affiliated with Hobbyco, just that this is what I do.

Regards
Greg
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Hi!

I'm a member of the 1FC Club and the Marklin Magazin. I don't think its wor5th getting the insider especially at the price. And there Train Traders in Sydney along with HobbyCo and Frey Import company in VIc.

WEll my last post was a bit messy. What I'm trying to say is the Insider Culb isn't worth it until they clean up the whole overseas thing. Often, unless you call them, they won't answer your emails. If I were you I'd just get the Marklin Magazin separate. It's pretty good. And if you live in Melbourne why don't you buy your trains from Frey import Co. They're based in Melbourne somewhere, or in Victora any how. And Don't jugde by websites. Train Trader has a pretty poor site but the shop is great. Ring up before you make up your mind on wich dealer to choose! (There re only four in Australia anyway.)

Dale, you send it back to your dealer, not directly to Marklin.

The form has multiple items on it - the Insider loco, wagon sets, and the Insider car (which is free). Fill out the bits you want and send it to your dealer. Keep in mind some parts of the form are for the dealer to complete. You should only need to complete the top third of the form.

If you are going to send the form to Toottoot, keep in mind that mail deliveries into Christchurch are limited at the moment, and Dion has also been busy helping out quake affected people.
