Do I qualify for the banana wagon club with this childhood classic one??? Roof also repainted during childhood due to wear & tear... According to Stephen's shots, it would be a 4509 (from the early 60's)... Got it for Christmas in 1963 as a part of my first train setup... My father bought mixed pieces instead of a starter set... Ran the 3003 and the wagons a lot around an oval which also included the mechanical railroad crossing with a red light... Great memories come alive... Webmaster attached the following image(s): |

About Banan-Kompaniet. Even if you cannot read Swedish it may be of some interest to have a look at the 90 year history, shoving some old photos of banana handling and distribution vehicles in Sweden. (The line of people in one of the pictures is not for the Cafe, but for the "Frukt" (=Fruit shop) having received the first banana delivery after WW2). There is some more recent information here: Saba TradingFinally the picture at the top shows the head quarters of Banan-Kompaniet and in front of the building two banana wagons (even though the photographer or web designer didn't mind "cutting off" the actual wagon and wheels) in a more recent livery, compared to the 4672. From Green Cargo there is some information about the "Jumbo Containers".

Thankyou for htat link Per. It says in part, quote, Quote:..... Home to half a billion people, the EU is the biggest banana market in the world. Seventy percent of bananas sold in its 27 states are from Latin America, home to important US producers such as Chiquita or Del Monte.
About 20 percent come from ACP countries with the remaining 10 percent are EU-grown.
As I have nothing to do at the moment, I got to thinking. How come there is such an obsession with bananas in these user countries? It is the same in parts of Australia, where you have companies in the southern states, which buy and distribute bananas, and nothing else. (Bananas are grown in northern parts of Australia, so they are all domestically grown). I mean why aren't there companies who do the same for pineapples, or paw-paws, or durian fruit (that's the one that smells like hell, and tastes like heaven), or monstero delicios, or other tropical species? There are many you could name, it would fill a book. Then we could have pineapple wagons, or monstero delicio wagons. In fact there is nothing to stop Marklin making up these fantasy wagons, they do it all the time for other themes! regards Kimball |

Due to the cyclone that arrived in Northern Queensland a few days ago 90% of the Australlian Banana Crop was wiped out, so Ian and other Banana Troops load up your Banana trains and send Bananas.

I once heard about the great tulip economy of the Netherlands (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_mania), and realised that there is a scary parallel happening here.. There is a significant increase in demand for banana wagons such that they are steadily increasing in value.. Soon it will cost a huge basket of gold to buy a banana wagon in any condition.. Someone in Scotland (or so it is rumoured) is creating a market by buying an hoarding all of the world's banana wagons.. Some say that he will shortly flood the market with wagons causing the great market crash of '11 or '12... In the meantime, the zepelin (now equipped with sound and digital systems upgrade) pulled into the platform to enable senior Government officials to examine the latest batch of uncouplers.. And behind the Zepelin was lurking two surplus banana wagons in the old programming track siding - all at once the cash flow problems of the Government were solved.. Now they just have to pick the peak of the market to sell.. Will the economy be saved, does the corrupt official have a Swiss bank account or will everyone crash and burn in the upcoming market crash? |

Hi Adrian, Yep, that makes a lot of sense to me. (your banana van looks like he could do with more mates. ) You should tell that guy, the next time he lifts a heavy looking box of the forklift, and walks over to the container, he should have opened the doors first. B1.

Ecuador first Then the two together And this what happens when the bananas go off in the wagon.......the top goes black |

1 bar means "air pipeline"; two bars mean "Kunze-Knorr brake"; 1 bar and a chevron mean "compound brake", two bars and a chevron mean "compound brake with interchange, or Westinghouse brake"... What do four bars mean, or is that a printing mistake? |

Membership of the Insider Banana Club is now available. This is a new version of the club run by Flash Dave and for a modest subscription you can apply for the Insider Banana of the year and a magazine issued four times per year. This year the mags will contain a part of a banana which you can build each quarter to produce a finished banana and then buy a special display case. Please note that this kit banana is treated for a long shelf life. Other bananas are available by the case and each case comes with a free Marklin wagon. I know this post is in the wrong forum completely but as only Users is bananas I thought members would not mind a post from Flash in their forum.

Hi Dave,
These kind of new clubs are always a bit slow to get started.
So let me be the first to join, do I send the cash to the usual address.
I meant to ask earlier, hows that Prime Minister thing going, pays well I heard.
I'm over in America at the moment, working on the layout, critters and all.
When's the first meeting of the Insider Banana Club.

Hi Ian. (Banana 1) Membership for yourself is of course free as you are the main banana ( not sure if this is a compliment or not)
Regarding a meeting because of the wedding anniversary I will not make the SECC on the Saturday but I do believe that Sheila will come with me on the Sunday morning ... this is an amazing first ... although a light lunch in the hotel may have been the clincher. Hopeful you will leave something for me to buy as the last day sometimes brings up a few bargains.
The banana Insiders will probably continue elsewhere as new members will I expect come from the well known twits who have a most peculiar imagination of which Flash Dave is by far the worst.
Your banana badge is in the post with a non squelch pin and has been sprayed with the Caves special stuff to preserve your badge for the years to come.

Hi Ian, I'm not absolutely sure, but I think this is the Primex version, catalogue number 4544, which is based on the 4505 box van instead of the 4508 insulated van.
