I was looking at this update from ESU concerning lok icons that can be downloaded to the newer ECoS 50200 color display.

http://www.esu.eu/upload...EN_August_2010_eBook.pdf

on page 3 it has a small note saying that the icons can be loaded on the monochrome 50000 but these icons have to be black and white, and describes the needed values.

Black (value #000000)
White (value #FFFFFF)

Can anyone give a little more detail to this?

That is the value used to identify the two colours in HTML code, don't see how this fit with the controller...

I had a quick look, since the software they are proposing, GIMP, uses those values for colors, instead of, say, RGB they are suggesting to use these.
Basically a black silouette against a white background, no grayscale.

Hi Alessandro.

I see where it talks about 24 bit (RGB) and the pixel count being 190*40 color and 80*20 BW. For the casual user I don't see how the color can be utilized for the 50000 station.

On the 50000 just pure black and white, if you look into the library of icons on ESU website there are a couple of examples of colour pictures rendered as such, apart those created pixel by pixel.
I wonder what Photoshop filter can be useful to easily transform a color pic into a bw one.

You need a bitmap with 24 bit (16.8 million colours) that only uses black and white, size 80x20 pixels.

The MS Paint applet that comes with Windows can be used for that.

I created one loco image so far. I used a photograph, scaled it to the correct size - and then I used magenta to paint what should be black on the final image. Finally I used the eraser tool of MS Paint to convert magenta to black.
