I am using a MS1 (1.9Amp) and that is sufficient for my needs. I have decided I would like to get a second controller so as to have one more operator (my wife perhaps) join me in operating my layout. My question is this, can you combine the MS1 and MS2? My thinking is to buy the new MS2 and then use my MS1 as the slave. However I am not sure of the compatability, is the base the same and can they be used together and do I need any additional adapter or plugs?

Thanks for the help.

Chris

Hi, Chris!

Yes, but only if you use a CS2 (or CS1 with MS2 at the sniffer port) as adapter.

Same plugs, but no compatibility.

Either buy another MS1 or buy 2 MS2s with a new connection box.

Thanks Tom. I think I am going to go the MS1 route. I seem to see those on Ebay for a pretty cheap price.

The only economically feasible option in your situation is to get another MS1 second hand. Either a 1.2 or 1.9 A version.
Kind regards, Henk

Hi Chris,

I picked up a second MS1 around Christmas for $25.00 on ebay. BigGrin Now I just need to find a 7 pin to 10 pin adapter. Does anyone know if that can be picked up from an electronics store or does it have to be a Maraklin part?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

you can find on eBay the adapter cable from Marklin too.

Make a search for Märklin or Maerklin item 610479 (Adapterkabel). Unfortunately it costs a lot of money, but it is made by Marklin for Marklin and you are 100% safe.
If you are able to find out the two connectors AND you know the EXACT electric connections between the two connectors, you can make it by yourself. But if you make something wrong, you can damage the Mobile Stations.
In any case I think you know to use the 1.9 A Mobile Station as the Master.

Cheers

Hi!

The adapter had the ref. number 610479 but is now known under the ref. number 60124.
Search both numbers on eBay and pick the cheaper one (same thing, different number).

hi renato
the MS1 and MS2 are not the same wiring
the two ms1 give you two handset with the same 10 locos on each handset
You cannot plug a MS2 into the Ms1 box as the wiring is differant in doesn't work
the ms2 box enable you to have two Ms2 with two seperate list of ten operation locos i.e 20 locos
and also don't forget with MS2 you also have access to 300 plus point/solnoid control from either MS2
so that's the total picture okay and i think we have one of those adaptor cables 60124 in stock if you want one
also don't forget if you use a third party cable and something goes wrong your marklin warranty will not be valid
because you didn't use the recommended cable, most electronics companies hold to that viewpoint not just marklin
lastly the MS2 is so much faster to use than ms1
trust this helps your thinking through

Hi Bryan (AKA old toot),

I know what you say.

My post was only a response to Paul and was intended to give him an advice about the cable to buy in order to connect together two MS1 (infact I suggested him to use the MS1 with an output rated 1.9 A as a master).
I own a CU6021 and a MS1 1.9 A output and of course I never connect both to the rail at the same time.

In any case, thank you for the already known information.

Cheers

Renato
