Folks,

Do you need to have a distance signal to make it work with a 7039 signal? Or can I just get by with a 7039 to make the trains stop and start at different times. Could be me but I find the Marklin documentation a challenge to understand but it is most likely me.

Thanks as always.

You can use the 7039 (and 7040 and 7041) signals by themselves.

The distance signals do not add any functionality other than by making things more resemble prototypical running.

You can download the Marklin 0340 signal manual from http://www.marklin.com/tech/

Can one use the signals such as a 7039 where a 7072 is not used and the signal is purely triggered by a train going another direction?

Happy New Year!

Guys I have wired up one and nil responses. Check trafo and wiring etc. Is there way to check the signals straight from the trafo? This signal has not been used for 25yrs and might be unservicable. If I can check from trafo instead of setting up in the tracks etc this might save time as I have another 2 in the same boat and I cannot remember if they were working when they were packed away all those years ago

Cheers

Yes. Marklin 5146, 5147 and 5105 are contact tracks used to do exactly that.

Do you mean testing the track blocking?
Otherwise, plug the yellow into the yellow, and either blue one to the brown briefly to test it.

Keep in mind that if you are not using M-track therefore not using the mounting plate you need to add a ground to the socket at the front of the signal for the light to work. The yellow supplies power for the solenoid and the light but the light needs it's own return ground since the blue gound leads are only momentary for switching of the solenoid.
