The translation for MHI is Marklin Dealer Initiative..

Limited edition = Yes, for all practical purposes, it is marketed as a more exclusive form of "One Time serries"
Price wise, new MHI items usually means no discount from RRP.

Rare = like every other limited edition models, depends on the quantity produced / ordered from the factory.
Arguably, none of the newer Marklin items are rare, since the tooling will surely be used again to produce another batch of the same model... though the running number/color scheme combination are unlikely to be repeated.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

MHI exclusive items are produced in the quantities order by the MHI dealers.
So these are amongst the big production runs of limited items. They are not rare, so don't expect rising value in general.

The same number of items has been made for all MHI exclusive models of that year and gauge. Some are "most wanted", some will be dumped with 50 % rebate on the RRP.

This loco was a 2005 new item and some dealers still have it on stock. Not sold out after 5 years, so this wasn't a "most wanted" item.

Tom

No. My area of expertise is gauge H0.

Compare the current eBay prices with the original RRP and you'll see which models keep their value.

As I understand, the dealers who are members of the MHI (Märklin Händler Initative) are obliged to receive a certain number of MHI items. Some of the items sell well and become "classics" while other become "shelf queens" due to uninterest from the public. So it is both ways, some models are attractive, some not...

It is not uncommon that MHI items go in special offers from a dealer after while on the shelf just to get rid of them...
