Hey guys,
Has anyone seen one of these yet?

http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product23574.html

I kind of want one, but don't own any Lilliput so I'm wondering A: how it looks and B: how it runs.

Any advice is appreciated!

the reason it is cheap, it could be, only the driving unit has a metal chassis with 2 motors.
But its still nice looking train but will it look like the prototype ?

The person that ownes this SBB Flirt is very happy with its performance, although the headlights are white-blue.
He changed the interior lights function to Aux 1.
In 2010 Liliput is bringing out another one with number 133998 "Le Veveyse"

I have the first model of the Flirt (133995). The trainset is very well adapted into a 1:87 model. Compared to previous productions from Bachmann-Liliput, this model is worlds apart from the earlier NPZ.
The trainset comes in three parts, the end coaches and the middle section (two coaches). Both end units are powered, although only one has the decoder necessary to operate the trainset in AC voltage. Both end coaches have AC sliders, and power is taken from the slider at the front of the train.
The only drawbacks on the new model are the front lights, which are blue tinted LEDs, the design of the couplings which are secured by screws, meaning that it is difficult to assemble the trainset and unassemble it for storage. On top of that, the unit must be put together while inverted and then transported and set on the rails. I am also a little concerned as to the durability of the threading of the screws over time, especially if the unit is put together and taken apart more frequently. There is no way to store the unit in the box without disassembling it into it's component elements. The additional problem that I noticed was that the interior LED lighting had a glow through the white shell of the trainset.
The new model, as far as I have learned, does not have the glow through problem, or it is not as noticeable as it was on the original model. On this basis, I have ordered this set from ETS with an export price of 235 EUR, which works out to about US$350. The set retails in Switzerland for 499 SFr (CHF), in Germany for 279 EUR. The Price listed by TEE USA is far below the price in Europe. I noted that Reynaulds also has a similar price.
I do not know if there will be any adjustment in the listed price following delivery due to fluctuations between the US$ and the Euro or whether the price will remain as announced. If you can lock in this price, you will be getting a good deal on the set.

Regards

Mike C

I note that Mike C indicated he had one of these on order last December.

Mike just wondering whether you have received the model and if you have any additional thoughts - especially plastic body transparency, general mechanical construction and running performance.

I now have both the 133995 RABe 521 Basel and 133996 RABe 523 Zug models. I must say that I am impressed with the Zug model. Liliput has corrected the problem with the housing, which no longer allows light to shine through.
The models are pretty much identical, except that the 523 has only one pantograph (SBB) and has a blue painted stripe along the edge of the roof.
The only downside to the model is the design of the couplings. The set comes in three sections, the two end coaches and the two middle coaches. I would have prefered if it had been designed so that it came in two sections, one end coach and one middle coach, requiring one less user connection than it currently has.
On top of that, I am not a big fan of the electrical connections between the sections. Relying on the electrical connections as the coupler means that the model can not easily be assembled or disassembled and makes it impossible to store the train in it's box without taking it all apart. A mechanical coupling with a simple plug and socket would have been much prefered here.
Criticism aside, this has to be the best Liliput model that I have ever seen. I recommend this model to all, but be prepared to keep it assembled once you have it together, because it is difficult to put together and take apart each time you want to run it.

Regards

Mike,

I have the PIKO "Blue Flash" and it consists of 3 cars plus I purchased the extra interior car. It has interior lighting and was a bear to assemble. I needed to remover the roof from each car to make the electrical connections, they just plugged into the following car. There was no way that I was going to disassemble and reassemble the set for train shows. I found a product "Train Safe" and I just run the train into the case when storing it.

Mike once again thanks for the additional information. Hmmm, well seems like I left it too late again Unsure

Both of my preferred German dealers (ETS & Lokshop) were nil stock and no longer able to supply - sad because LokShop had it listed at €205.

Anyway I was able to order one out of Reynaulds at a reasonable price. I haven't yet received an order confirmation but their Web Shop was showing stock so "fingers crossed" Woot

Another Melbourner here - going to Germany/England in the middle of the year and interested in the 133972 DBAG version of the FLIRT. Does anyone have any idea if it will be realeased early enough in the year for me to pick one up whilst I am over there?

Tivvy - sorry not able to help you with your FLIRT query - I'm still trying to find my one Angry

However the overview details of your layout under construction sound interesting. Have you actually started construction - are there photos or a track plan? I'm sure our downunder members would be interested.

Sorry to go off topic, cool train and all, and if you have the early version you could paint the inside of the car black, should stop the shine through.

to the Melbournites, where do you normaly get your new trains from? are there any stores in Melbourne that Marklin on the shelf? iv been haveing trouble finding much except for Frey imports in langwarrin who seem a bit expensive compared to some of the american websites. of course this would be mostly due to the high value of the Aus dollar at the moment.

It was nice to see that Liliput corrected the light shine through issue on the 2009 version (133991DC/133996AC). If you have not yet bought this item and are considering it, I would recommend the second model. Thanks for your suggestion about correcting the problem for those who have the original model. I have not yet corrected mine.

John (Kodiak),

your comment about sourcing Maerklin in Australia (specifically Melbourne) is probably of interest to the number of Aussies and New Zealanders in the forum. I would suggest that you consider creating a thread in the ebay/dealer section for this topic.

All- I finally got mine!

I have the new SBB "Seehas" version in AC. A few notes:

-A DISASTER to assemble- its tricky!
- Build quality is by no means Marklin or Roco, but its pretty nice. My only complaint is that the "nose" caps on either end or just a smallest bit different from the white on the rest of the train
- running caharacteristics are quite nice, and with a factory lokpilot 3.0 they are adjustable.
- the interior light is gorgeous- as the near invisible destination signs on the windows are a nice touch.

I'l be weathering the roof and enjoying it! As mike mentions though- try and make space in your display case so you don't need to take it apart!

I was wondering if it's possible to assemble the Liliput Flirt in a 2-car configuration? (leave the two middle cars in the box ;)

What about running it in general? Does it handle R1 curves?

Kaspar,

the trainset comes in three parts, each pilot unit must be attached to the middle section. The pilot coaches cannot be connected without the the middle parts. The couplings must be secured in place with screws. This makes it rather difficult to disassemble and reassemble the trainset frequently. As discussed above, I would try to find some kind of storage unit that could hold the unit assembled when it is not being used on the layout.

My latest information has the DB version being released in early 2011. I am looking forward to the modified SOB RABe 526 version, which hopefully will be announced in the next year or two.

Regards

Mike C

Hi Mike,

thanks for the quick answer. I'm also looking at Piko's new 442 Talent, it got a good review in latest issue of MIBA.

There is a very positive review of the FLIRT with SBB Seehaas livery in the December edition of the Continental Modeller magazine, a UK publication.

There seems to be a lot of technology on board for a very reasonable 270 Euros. The motors look interesting as well, they are a similar size to a compact C-Sine and also have the flywheel as part of the worm drive. There is provision for fitting a sound system too, as there is a cutout for a speaker, though factory-fitted sound is not currently offerred by Bachmann. The decoder is an ESU Lokpilot in the 3-Rail version.

I am quite tempted if these are still available when my funds are replenished next year!

Best Regards
Ashley
