While on the subject of failures ...
Last weekend, in addition to loco problems, while I was trying to assemble my Henschel-Wegmann train, one of the coupling bars made a bid for freedom and remains un-captured! There is still a chance that it is somewhere on the layout though I have had a pretty good look for it. (This is not the first time that one of these coupling bars has sprung off into space but, fortunately, they have been found again and returned to their rightful place.) I had a look at the Märklin website to see if I could purchase a couple of spare sets. However, they do not appear to sell them, nor can I find a part number.
Does anyone here know where I could go to purchase two sets of coupling bars for this train?
With best wishes, Chris. |

Chris,
I asked Michelle at Marklin USA. If my memory is correct, Mother M* uses the same connecting rods on several of their unit trains. I'll let you know what I learn.

Good evening Chris, I had a response from Jeff Stimson, Information Support Manager, Märklin, Inc.(P.O. Box address)P.O. Box 510559, New Berlin, WI 53151-0559. His email address is Jeff@marklin.com. He has been very helpful with some of my problems. An example is that I have a 2 sets of "C" track high speed switches and wanted to use them for a "X" crossover. It took him about a week with the explaination that the switches are 12 degree angle and the crossover is also 12 degree, but geometrically the crossover piece would need to be 2x the switch angle or 24 degrees. He really knows his stuff. Anyway back to "Z" scale, his response as follows: "I did find one other number, a coupling drawbar to go between the cars. The part number for this is 326733". I also have the same train and have worried about breaking them, not launching them. Maybe I'll order some also. I hope this helps. Robert |

Hi Robert.
That's brilliant. I agree with Jeff over teh worry about breaking them and I think that worry and pussyfooting around when making up a train is what leads to the bids for freedom.
As I now have a part number, I will see if I can get some in the UK or direct from Märklin. If not, I will get in touch with Jeff. Thank you for taking this up for me. Other leads that I had proved to be non-starters.
With best wishes, Chris. |

At Lokshop in Germany, they are called Kuppelstange MAR326733 and cost 0.96 Euro.
Stock status is "Ordered from manufacturer". |

Thank you Juhan.
I could not find a search facility on their site so sent a message via their contact page. I said that I wanted 10 of them. Hopefully they will respond tomorrow. The main problem is that Märklin don't make them any longer, which is very annoying.
Best wishes, Chris. |

Chris,
I asked Jeff about them and he stated that I would need to go through Whalthers, the USA distributor or my local dealer. I'll let you know what the price is here in the USA. It will be inbteresting to copare 0.96 Euro to the USD.

Thanks Robert. I agree, it will be interesting to see the difference though I suspect that the US price will be higher. I wonder if the €0.93 is for one or for a pack of three.

Hi Nev.
I don't know how they come. I just mentioned packs of 3 'cos that's how many are used in the set. Whichever way it is, I want about 10 of the wretched things to be absolutely safe.
Best wishes, Chris. |

I've sent an email to 3 of my dealers to get prices. I've found that they don't all have the same price.

Should be more than one in a pack, since "Kuppelstange" means coupler bar s... |

Thanks Juhan.
Google couldn't translate it. However, if you break it down into two words: 'Kuppel stange' it comes out as 'Dome gore'!!! (It does get 'stang' as 'rod' so I suppose that is about right.) 0.93€ seems a very reasonable price for three of them (or whatever a pack contains). Babelfish gets it as 'Dome bar' (singular) if you break it into two words.

Chris,
I heard from one of my dealers. The draw bars come 4 to a pack and is $2.50 USD. There are none in the USA and are on backorder status.

Hi Juhan and Robert. As I had suspected, the coupling was trapped in the wiring behind the controllers. However, I have had no luck getting any as queries either get no answer or lack of interest in supplying them. For the benefit of those who don't know what we are talking about, here is a photo of one of these coupling bars. All the best, Chris. |

Hi Robert.
Did you hear anything yet regarding the coupling bars? I've tried a couple of recommendations but didn't even receive a reply.
Best wishes, Chris. |
