Hello,

I have just started this beautiful station kit from Railway Design associates. [:p]

It was bought sometimes ago by Louise with all her taste that we know.[:I]

It represents the New Haven Junction Station that was located in Vermont. I have found an old postcard of that station :

A picture of the kit box now :

More information about the kit itself here.

This will certainly change from usual Walthers-Cornerstore and Atlas stations and depots. By the way, it seems that Railway Design Associates has several very beautiful kits. Ulf, that's for you ! wink

I will post pictures as soon as works are in a more advanced stage.

Pierre.

Pierre,
This is a beautiful model of a brick country station! Most small stations here in Vermont were build out of wood. If you ever travel "south of the border" you will find this station still stands with a well-restored exterior about 28 miles south of Burlington VT at the intersection of US 7 and Vermont Rte 17. It is currently the headquarters of Roundtree Construction Company. Even the order board is still there, although the signal blades are long gone. If I had a scanner I would send you a more recent photo of the station. Besides its owner Rutland Railway, it also served as a transfer for the connecting Bristol Railroad, a 4-mile shortline that was abandoned in the 1930s. The coach in back of the station in your postcard may belong to the Bristol Railroad, as the Rutland and successor Vermont Railway have several tracks on the west side of the station.

Interesting information ! Thanks Jeff. Smile

This will probably trigger a week-end to spend in Vermont this autumn with Louise. The station is at about a 2/2.5 hour drive from Montreal. The problem is always to cross border and the lost time at the US Customs check-point ! [:(!]

I will now suspend works on the kit. I will start again after I will have seen the actual station in order to make the most accurate reproduction as possible (maybe including interior).

Do you live close from there ?

Pierre.

Hello Steven,

All buildings and structures are HO.

HOn3 and HOn30 only applies to rolling stock which is intended for HO narrow gauge.

Gorgeous station, Pierre! Went thru the Railway Design catalog and was very impressed with the way they have captured the early 20th century in North America. An inspiration for my model making.

Hopefully you won't have to suspend your work on the station too long. I have taken some of my photos (from 1976 and 1998)of the New Haven Jct station to the photo shop in Burlington and will have them put on a CD. I hope to get them back within the week as I don't get to the city on a daily basis. I will then try to upload them for all to see. If this is beyond my technical abilities, I shall send them to you via e-mail.

Yes, I live about 12 miles from New Haven Jct. and it would be nice to meet you if our schedules permit. The station is close to the college town of Middlebury, which has many good inns and B&Bs if it is not an Alumni weekend. Depending on your timing, you will get good foliage in the Green Mountains (early) or in the Champlain Valley (October). Some leaves are already turning colors on the northern bays of Lake Champlain.

There are several stations still remaining along the line from Burlington to Middlebury, and I will be happy to tell you where to look for them if you would like this information.

By the way, I greatly enjoy reading about all of your conversion projects!
Jeff
