My friend loaned me his lux-modellbau track cleaning cars (vacuum and rail cleaner). Both units, nos. 8820 and 9020) are digital units, but the instructions that include the digital addresses have been misplaced. What addresses are set at the factory? Can anyone help? I'd appreciate a comment on the usefulness of the track cleaning cars as well. My layout is complete with overhead catenary and cleaning the M* C-track by hand, although infrequent, is next to impossible now.

Jeff Default address is 78. I have the pair 9620 (Matching set). both cars to be coupled together. They are Very good.the track cleaner is great. has a rotating felt pad. N |
NOt wearing the Pink Pinny, which is hard to see and now I have a white Pinny which also is hard to see against MY pure white Skin Still have 2 new shiny tin Hips that is badly in Need of Repair matching rusting tin shoulders
and a hose pipe on the aorta

N Thanks Nevw, I put both cars on my track this morning and dialed in address 78. Gave it a throttle and nothing happened???? Even though I hadn't yet coupled a loco to it, I expected the motors to run. I then opened the cleaning car and noticed three stacked Nicad batteries. These cars are not new. Would you expect that the batteries might need to be replaced? Do your instructions say anything about that? I am going to let them sit on the live track for a while to see if the batteries are self-charging. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Hi Jeff,
It would be a wonder if those batteries would be self-charging, however you never know. Why not change them with a couple of standard Alkaline batteries and try again?
BTW, CS1 has a address-finder function and probably CS2 has that also if they still not work with charged batteries.

Batteries are self charging.
and givee about 5 minutes running designed to keep the power to the brush in case of power shortage due to dirty track.
Now I brought my Lux cars as a set. the main decoder is in the vacuum car and works on the for speed. the vacuum car has 2 wires connecting to the track cleaner.
track cleaner is truned on by turning on the lights and then the throttle. hitting the stop button stops the vac car and turning off the lights stops the cleaning car.
NOW do not take this as gospel as working from an aged memory and could be having seniors moments. I about 40 minutes from now I will run tem and gice instructions.

Just checked both (as I have the set) 78
TO control,
Vacuum by the throttle. F1 full speed area, throttle increases speed f4 slower speed sange.
Track Bruch
Light turns the control on, fwd/rev turns on or off

Thanks, all for your replies. I've had no luck whatsoever yet, and have tried all of your suggestions regarding digital addresses. Many of you are referencing item number 9620, which I believe is a newer model than the one I have, which is item number 9020. The set of cars I have has NO connecting wires between the two cars??. Keep your ideas coming and I'll still keep trying other things.

Hello Jeff.
I have a LUX 8820 track cleaning wagon and as mentioned before the decoder was 78. I put mine on the program track and changed the code to 174 as 78 was the same as something else. To make it work all you do to turn up the speed control up one the side that you have it on the CS1/2 or the one speed control on the MS1/2. I also have the other LUx track cleaner ie the brush. I have no instruction book as I bought it on e bay. It has a ESU Lokpilot V3.0 decoder in it and it was set at code03 but I have changed it to code175. These are separate wagons and no wires between them.

Hi Jeff.
What did you end up doing about the batteries? Problem may be there. Perhaps the decoder was reset, try 03 for the address?

Tried digital address 03 with still no luck. The 3 small batteries in the cleaning car are labeled as rechargable nicad and are soldered together and taped down to the body. They do not look to be easily replaceable. So, last night I rigged up an analog transformer to a test track and let the car sit idle on the track overnight, thinking that it might recharge the batteries. It still does not react to any digial commands or power. I cannot read the address using my Intellibox, so I suspect that it might be some special decoder??? Still trying... but thanks for the suggestions.

Jeff Jeff, Any idea when these were last used successfully? Did you put a voltmeter to the batteries? Thomas |

The three small batteries are soldered in series and are producing about 1.3 VDC. They do not appear to be dead, at least. I'm not sure how old the cars are, but suspect they haven't been operated in a few years..

Jeff Hi Jeff. That does seem a bit low. Your basic drill is about 7.5vdc? Can you make out any writing on the battery? Any luck with the address Ron posted, 49 and 79? r/Thomas |

No luck yet with any of the address numbers suggested. I cannot read the voltage rating on any of the batteries, but I doubt this can be the problem, however, since I would expect some reaction even with low voltage. Another friend tried reading the decoders on his ESU Lokprogrammer today, and was unsuccessful (they aren't ESU decoders). I'm beginning to suspect that these cars may have burned out motors or fried decoders, since I believe the owner experienced a lightening strike not too long ago??? I may be at the end of the line since the cars are not mine and I hesitate to tear into them because of that fact. I plan to check DCC voltage next at internal wiring point next to see if they appear to be still alive. Short of that, I'm not sure what I can do next. But thanks everyone!

Another thought...have you measured the voltages inside the car with it on the track? Some time ago my cleaning car stopped working. The problem was that the little brass or copper contacts that ride on the axles of the bogie that provides the ground/mass had bent up and were not contacting the axles. Make sure the signal and power are making it inside the car.

Well, I'm out of ideas about what to do next. Voltage appears to be present inside cars, but still no operation. I'm not going to mess with them any more as they are not mine. The owner feels that he will eventually locate his instructions, and so I will wait. I can't thank you all enough, however, for your suggestions and help.
