Hey everyone,I just saw the new limited Swiss set #26567 online, and it lookds pretty cool! Nothing new at all and a bit pricy, but some of my favorite cars re-issued and a locomotive that will make a nice upgrade from my old 6080 version. I suspect it to have something to do with the cancelled Swiss Digital Start set the announced this year. (maybe last year?) Does anyone know if this is a Switzerland only item, or if we can get them in the US/Germany? A link: http://www.bahnorama.ch/...popup_image.php?pID=7805 |

Limitierte Serie von einmalig 999 Stück, mit Zertifikat." http://www.zueri-tech.ch/detail.aspx?spezArtId=222Special series for Shop-in-Shop shops only. Limited to 999 copies, with certificate. Doesn't say "Switzerland only" but I presume it is a special series for Switzerland; haven't found it at German dealers' yet. |

The 26567 Set is being released as a Special Series for Maerklin Switzerland. As you suspected, the contents are identical or very similar to what was announced for the Mobile Station 2 Start Set in 2009. That Set was never released due to delays in production of the MS 2 and has now been repackaged as an Exclusive Set for Swiss Shop-In-Shop Dealers. The Set was announced to coincide with the Suisse Toy Fair in Bern and was pretty much right away available through most if not all Swiss Dealers with Shop-In-Shop status. Like last year's 37346 and the year prior's 37342, this item will likely be made available to other territories if sets are still available after a few months. The first ones have already appeared on eBay and other sites. I would shop around for the best price. It seems that most dealers are letting this go for around 499 CHF. I would estimate this set as having a worth of around 320 EUR, making the Swiss Price a little steep.
"Ausführung Anfang der 1990er Jahre. Lokomotive mit Digital-Decoder mfx, Hochleistungsantrieb und Geräuschfunktionen (Fahrgeräusch, Lüfter, Bremsenquetschen, Lokpfiff), 2 Achsen angetrieben, Haftreifen sowie fahrtrichtungsabhängig wechselndes Dreilicht-Spitzensignal."
"Appearance corresponding to early 90s. Locomotive with Digital Decoder mfx, HLA and Sound Functions (Operating sounds, Ventilators, Brake Noise, Whistle). 2 Axles powered, Rubber tires as well as direction dependant three light front lights."
The model has improved details compared to the original 3323/3328, notably the outside mirrors. The model is equipped with the same type of pantographs as on the Re 460. In normal operation, the Re 4/4IV (Re 440) was equipped with the same type of pantographs as the Re 4/4II (BBC type). I would be interested in knowing whether this model has an improved design for the mounting of the bulb than did the original 3323/3328.

Mine had these adjustable mirrors from the beginning. the side bulb holders had been made available with most locos of this era. (NS 1600-1700 Series) (SNCF 22000 Series >).

Looks like a nice start set. I will have to take a closer look when I am in Zurich later this month. |

Mike C 50% exact. ....Officially this set should be distributed exclusively outside Germany, not only in Switzerland. European countries excepted Germany. About the USA : probably yes, but I'm not sure. I think that American authorized Marklin retailers could get access to this product if they want....depending if "outside Germany" means : 1/ Switzerland + all countries which Swiss Marklin branch is dealing with (since 2009 French & Belgian branches have been closed, those countries are now under partnership with Swiss Marklin-branch) = Switzerland,France, Belgium, Italy,etc... or 2/All the world excepted Germany ...which is what was not specified to me....I could get a more precise answer within next 15 days... One thing is sure : I can buy this set to authorized Marklin dealers here in France, if I want (...nice to see this lok with new MFX electronics + sound + unique SBB registration number...). Just to let you know that German Ebay Seller Johnvandamme (Joachim Kraft), who I can highly recommend, has 2 of these sets available for a very reasonable Euro 289. My budget for 2010 and early 2011 is now exhausted :( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ma...&hash=item1e60092030Best Regards Ashley

John (5HorizonsRR), you can email him and ask "wieviel kostet der Versand nach Amerika?" I am sure that you will be able to understand the XX Euros part of the reply. I am pretty sure that it will cost between 35 and 45 EUR for this set. This seller accepts PayPal and I can highly recommend him.
As far as Jeehring's comment, the set was listed in the most recent Maerklin Email Blast, which probably means that it is now available worldwide, including Germany. My original comment referred to the fact that the set was commissioned by Maerklin CH. (Announced as "Einmalige, limitierte Schweizer Sonderserie".) The elements of the set were originally planned to be part of a Start Set with the new mobile station in 2009. I guess that the locomotive and cars may have already been in production when the set was cancelled due to the issues with the MS2 and this provided the opportunity to repackage the lok and cars as a separate set. As was the case with the 37363, the 37342 and last year's 37346, items that were not ordered by Swiss dealers were subsequently made available to other territories. Whether Maerklin CH now handles distribution to other countries or not, which I have not been able to confirm, is irrelevant to the discussion at this point. I also find it rather unlikely that they would distribute through Switzerland rather than directly, because A) this involves conversions between Euro and CHF and various Taxes and Duties for shipping while it would be less costly to distribute directly from the factory. The next time I speak with my contact at Maerklin CH, I will try to obtain more details.
Regards

Thanks Mike! Any chance you can advise on how to ask "since shipping to the US, can the VAT be deducted from the price?" |

Yes Joachim Kraft is my favourite Seller, I only go elsewhere if he does not have the item I am looking for. His packaging is first rate and he usually ships the same day as payment is received. His English is perfect and he is normally the cheapest on German Ebay for new releases as well.
Please note that here in the UK we have been advised of long delays on shipments a'cross the pond' to the US and Canada, due to additional security checks on parcels. I would think that would also effect shipments from mainland Europe as well.
Joachim states that this set is a limited run of 999, but the Marklin website is still showing it with a green traffic light, i.e. still in stock at Marklin. I would guess that the set did not do very well in Switzerland at the original CHF 499. Euro 289 seems a pretty fair price to me though, says me checking for any space on my credit card!
Best Regards Ashley

Ashley- thanks for the tip! The seller removed VAT and shipping was fair (and impressed me with his english!) so there is a set on its way to me!
499chf was crazy for this set, but at $360 shipped (about what mine worked out too) - $130 for the digital 3330 I'm going to sell leaves me with 4 nice cars and a MFX/sound upgrade for my loco. A touch pricy, but the same it would have cost to buy the cars and do the chip and sound dance with my current loc. |

All, the set arrived in top order today! I have to give this seller a HUGE thumbs up as it was one of the best pakaged items I can remember receiving- really carefully packed.
The set itself is great as well! No complaints, and a nice loud sound system. It didn't come with any sort of numbered certificate, but I'm assuming that is becuase the set is no longer switzerland exclusive.
Happy Marklin-er here! |
