I need more power and to date I have been getting by with the CS1-R uprated power supply at 4mA.

I am considering 2 options:
1. Using my existing Marklin 52VA transformer and obtaining a 6015 Booster via E-Bay, or
2. Buying a new 4mA or 8mA ESU ECoS Boost.

Option 1. would be less expensive as I already own the Marklin tansformer, however, I have read that the 6015/7 Boosters do not provide feedback from MFX decoders, and if so, this would render my plan useless as I do run up to 6 Marklin MFX locos. Admittedly, this information comes from the English language version of the ECoS manual which for most part applies to the CS1-R (for which there is no English language version that I know of). If this does apply to the CS1-R then only option 2. become relevant.

I guess, I could use the 6015 to power the accessories only?

Thanks for any information on this topic.

Malcom,
download the manual for the new ECOS (the colour one) except for the colour it is the same info as the CS1 R and the B/W ecos

Use the Ecos Boost (I did) and us the marklin TRaffo for accessories.

I don't consider myself expert and so I will relate what I have. Originally had a CS1 but it broke and now have a CS2 (still setting things up). When the CS1 was working, I used it to operate all loc's. I used my 6017 to operate the turnout tracks and signals. I believe you are correct that the 6017 does not pass certain information back to the CS but I believe I do not lose any functionality with this approach. Others may be able to provide additional comments on this approach.

Regards,

Harvey

The 6017/6015 boosters do not pass information back to the CS. However, there are 3rd party modules available that allow the 'mfx' information to be passed back to the CS when using those boosters.

The Tams Booster Link is such a device - http://www.tams-online.d...terLink/produkte_BL.html

The EcosBoost rated at 8 Amps is only for the big, 1 gauge garden railroad, there is a warning in the ESU instructions.
In case of short it can weld the parts on an H0 model.
Consider also that with a CS1R you get almost 2 Amps more power and that you can separate the track and turnouts power by other means, like Viessmann 5215 power module.
Are you planning to have lots of passenger illuminated cars?

You can use the 6015 to run locos - they just won't register with the CS1R.
They must be on a track powered by the CS1R to register, but once registered they can run everywhere.

In certain situations mfx locos will re-register with the CS (e. g. if you delete an mfx loco). Locos on the 6015 area of the layout at that time won't re-register and won't move until you come to the rescue.

Long story short: depending on how you make the booster section on your layout you might be able to use the 6015 (or a 6017) without noticing any disadvantages.

BTW: the output of the CS1Reloaded is 4000 mA, not just 4 mA. Wink

Tom

THanks for the great information. This forum has some really helpfuyl folk. It is very much appreciated.

I have decided to go with the ECosBoost 4A.

I'll put the Marklin 52VA's on E-bay to X subsidise the purchase.
