Hello,

I like this plan (c-track version) and am wondering if anyone else has been considering this layout. The size is good for me (1.2x3m about 4x10ft), the station has shunting, there is a parade track and a modest 3 track shadow station. I'd be interested to read any critiques or improvements that could be made to the plan without changing the size much. I wonder if a reversing loop could fit in shadow station level or if the number of shadow station tracks could be increased. A small loc shed and/or a small coaling and water area would be nice too, but I don't know where to put it without cluttering layout.

Here's the download if you don't have the magazine:

TIA

It's a nice plan with a lot of operating potential, given the size. I don't think you'll be able to add more track without upsetting the balance. Maybe the parade track could be doubled up with a small increase in size?

The parade track limits the shadow station level.

I'd try more and/or longer tracks in the shadow station.

Raising the parade track and everything else that's above shadow station level by a few centimeters would allow redesigning the shadow station to make use of the whole space - with more tracks and possibly a reversing loop.

Running long trains that don't fit in the visible station makes sense for both express and freight trains.

Tom

I would considder moving the curved switches to the right one or two curved tracks further out to be able to run slightly longer trains.

Else I like that plan. The idea of maybe doubling up on the parade-track is interesting and will give you more traffic and also allow you to "store" one more train set in traffic.

Hi all,

Got an email from a member:

"You must build a second Shadow station between the first loop (point 170 mm) and the deepest shadow station. The tracks going diagonal. The tracks of the 2nd shadow station have a slight (light?) slope. The size of the plate does not change."

I thought it was a pretty good idea.

Thanks for all the comments so far.
