I have had these sets for a while now.. Miss 6 and I have just finished building a modest mountain for the layout..

The mountain is a flat top (should have been level, but the board slipped during plastering) and is 420mm high.. The problem is that the instructions for the 6340 suggest that the base of the mountain end should be 600mm from the table top..

Any thoughts and experiences are always appreciated...

Well I didn't get much of a response so I can assume that no one else here has one of these great things.

This is the mountain end. Not finished as the end of the building needs supports and I need to do something creative with the inside - does not seem natural for people to jump 2m down from a cable car to get off...

This is the tower that supports the cable between the mountain and the valley ends. The problem is that the black cable is supposed to sit on the metal knob at the end, but when I do this the cable car falls off the black thread. [xx(]

Hi Adrian. I have been thinking for a while of buying one of these kits so although I cant help with any problems I am interested to learn how you manage with the project.
Surely somebody must have built one that can help.

Hi Adrian,

While I do not have the model, your first photo reminds me of "Where eagles dare" [Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood et al.]; they did jump 2 meters from the roof of the car (and RB sprained his ankle I believe) to a platform that aligns with the car door; in your model -- as far as I can see -- this platform should be located more or less on the level of the square opening in the left-hand wall.

As to the car falling off the thread, are you sure the cable should sit on the metal knob? As the cable will necessarily be at different angles before and after the knob it is impossible to keep both ends of the car suspension(?the thing that connects the car to the cable) in contact with the cable during the passage of the tower. The girder-like thing the cable now runs on normally serves to ease that transition as it supports the entire suspension during the passage of the tower.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Jeroen - that makes sense...

The black nylon cable does not move.. The wire cable is attached to the cars and is wound around the motors - the car slides over the black thread... The instructions seem to say that the nylon thread should be placed on the knob, but it is working the way I have it, but over time I can see the wire chaffing the nylong thread at the tower piece and wearing through the Nylon...

I am pretty sure the wire is routed the right way as you have done in the picture. We only have one place where that type of Cable Car in Sweden and what I remember the cable should have been routed that way. If my father was alive I could asked him because he was one of the guys building it.

Have tried to find pictures but have not found any with enough detail in that part.

The other really cool things are that the cars themselves have lights and the cars move to the end, wait and then reverse direction.. I will post more pictures when I do some more work on the two ends of the cable cars and wire it up properly.

I am going to the hobby store today to buy some "weathering" paints..

Cheers

I had some time available today to work on this cable car.. The pictures I showed before are not correct and the manual (at least the english pages) does not make it clear how the cars should be connected to the wire cable.

UserPostedImage
Shows the tower correctly set up, as described in the manual, with the moving wire cable over the guide and the fixed nylon cable resting on the metal pivot.

UserPostedImage
Shows the correct way to connect the car to the cable.. You have to route the wire between the fixed pulleys - previously the wire went straight out from the bulb connection posts..

I have completed the video and saved it as a ZIP file - it goes for just over 30secs.

WARNING: The file is 5Mb in size

<s>http://users.bigpond.net.au/zmythologia/brawa.zip</s> **** The link is offline at the moment, but if you really need to see the video, then please send me a PM and I will e-mail it to you ******

Nice video Adrian - Makes a great addition to the layout.Something I have thought of as well.

Can you slow them down? - to me they may be going a bit fast? Perhaps reduce the supply voltage a bit.?
Regards Tony

Hmmm good thought... I might look into a variable resistor - it is an AC motor...

Looks impressive.
I have the Brawa Funicular Set item 6310 which has the same drive unit and I noticed that it is rather noisy. Once I have my conversions done on my locomotives (15 to go) I will be looking at a way to change the motor and hopefully connect it to a decoder so the speed and lighting can be controlled digitally. It seems that the lighting might be a little too bright also, with the reduced voltage as suggested earlier the lights will also dim some and last longer.

Nice video! I also have a cable car, it's one of these old Eheim items (which later was taken over by Brawa):

http://biphome.spray.se/...ck/Layout_overview_L.jpg

As you can see on the picture, I have a very short distance between the valley and mountain stations. Therefore, I didn't care about using the tower. And I'm using only one cable, i.e. no black nylon cable.

My motor also sounds too much. I would also be very interested in input on that side...

Cool Funck

Thanks Peter.. They are much nicer buildings too.. The glass area has a wonderful aspect of the layout..

I also sourced a real 16V AC transformer and the lights are now more realistic. The motor is still noisy though... I like the idea of using a decoder for the lights, but I suspect that might be a little challenging to set up given the way the cable cars are wired through the operating cable. (ie exposed wire) [|)]
