I use LokShop in Germany for planned orders, MJ-Hobby in Sweden for occasional stuff and have also bought on Ebay. On Ebay, I can recommend the dealer mentioned by Mike as very trustworthy and good. A couple of dealers are also members here, mostly non-German though. It all depends on where you live on the planet, and if there is good dealer near you... And yes - the topic has existed in many versions over the years, but things do change so it's ok to ask again...  |

I've used Micro Macro Mundo and AJC Kids. Good experiences with both.
Ebay is also a good source, though lately I see fewer "good" prices versus dealers. You have to really look carefully.

I use www.blueridgehobbies.com They are also my local hobby shop here in Greenville SC, but I have found Frank to have the lowest marklin prices (10-15% cheaper) on line and faster service. For hard to find items I have used station500 in Germany through Ebay. He usually can find anything you want if you can't find it. |

one thing i just discovered, when searching on ebay, search for both Marklin and Märklin. it brings up different results. |

Lokshop. Good web site in various languages, good prices and fast reliable delivery. Good service if there are any problems. If you are not aware of how or what the item you require does then a local dealer is best in order that you can see and compare.

I use mainly Ontracks in the UK,who provide a very good service and can pretty much get anything you like out there. In France the little bleu train,though their stock is limited, and the main Marklin European site. |

hi!! I am based also in Athens, and I shop mainly from I PIGI TOU TRENOU in Thesaloniki (http://www.modeltrains.gr/) since I find them very profesional in their service. They also accept Cash On Delivery (usually they ship next day), and they are very much willing to help you with problems and requests, for e.g. Insiders Items.

I use AJCKIDS when i want quantity and I am not in a hurry. My closest local shop, Ormandy's in Medina, Ohio is great for "I need it now" stuff and all my Locos. I spend a little more but Mr. Ormandy is amazing at repairing items and he will oil and do minor service to any loco he sells for free. Very Knowledgeable. AJCKIDS has always answered my email questions within a day and is quick in mailing things out.

As I'm finally getting around to building my layout, after 10 years being back in the States, my on-line shop of choice is AJCKids. Guy and Sarah have been most responsive to answer any questions and have promptly fulfilled my orders -- even working with me to obtain the best price, low shipping costs, and pointing me toward alternative solutions that are more economical. I live in Holland and that is a small country. Therefore dealers where you can see what you buy are plenty and within reach. In my opinion the most ideal situation. But for the unlucky Märklin fans who live far away: the Märklin Magazines (full version in German language) offers under 'Service' two pages full of dealers, alas with no internet adresses but the 'search' possibilities offers enough hits. These Märklin dealers can be considered as 'reliable'.

I have had success with rjftrains.com in New York and Eurorailhobbies.com in British Columbia. My closest shop is Hartmann Railroad in New Hampshire...the owners Rodger and Nelly Hartmann have an extensive selection of Locos and rolling stock of which not all is on the website.

Almost every new item I have comes from Scott at Helmuts Hobby Specialties. I've had great dealings with him and he's quite knowledgeable. Also does a very professional job with servicing and lok upgrades.
He's my dealer of choice.

I use eBay for used trains and mostly Lokshop and ETS for new. Both are pretty good on the whole, although ETS tends to overpack new items - eg I've just received a new Z scale Hercules, which would be about as big as my thumb and it came in a box nearly big enough to hold the real thing. I exaggerate, a bit...
ETS tends to underpack used items, but so far I've been lucky. They have a reasonable range of used items, at least in Z scale.
I've just received a pair of Z scale OBB Taurus from Rainer Modelleisenbahn of Innsbruck (Austria) and they seem to be good too. They're about the same size as the Hercules and they came in an even larger box than the one ETS used. |

Hi Gary, Noticed your post and was interested in a fellow Aussie from Sydney who purchases on line in preference to Australian dealers (I am not being nationalistic-just intersted). If you don't mind I would be interested in your reasons; better price ,access to stock etc. Do you have the email address for ETS and what is the usual sort of time for "in stock" purchases from ETS and Lokshop to Sydney? Hi Murray To answer your question, I buy the way I do because places like Lokshop and ETS have a much better range of stock and considerably lower prices. The price differential is more than enough to cover the cost of shipping to Australia. To compensate for higher shipping costs I usually order a number of items at a time, to spread the cost. The time taken for "in stock" purchases to get here from Lokshop and ETS is usually about three weeks, sometimes a bit longer. Another advantage is that if they have to order something from Marklin they get it in a few days, a week at most. If an Australian dealer has to get stock in it'll take them weeks. My experience is based solely on buying Z scale and I have no real idea how it is buying HO. Thanks for your reply. For my next large order I think I will try your suggestion although waiting may be a pain-I am not good at waiting- perhaps I could look at it like Christmas when I was a kid.I think the isssue of range will be the deciding factor because if it is not available in Australia I will be waiting forever. I would assume Z and HO would be the same re delivery and quality of service so this should not be an isue. Only question is have you had any quality control issues because sending it back would be a real pain.

Keep the order value at about $1000 Max, then you avoid the dreaded GST plus the collection fee.

Hi Murray Patience is a virtue  The only quality issue for new items was actually for one of the last. The OBB Hercules that I've just received from ETS needed to have the wheels cleaned. It may have been on the shelf for a while. |
